stock sized SRT tires are 205/50/17.

Also, this belongs in the Wheels/Tires section.

As stated: 205/50R17 on a 17x6. You really can't go any wider on them, some have run 215s but the sidewalls bow out too much and it creates a condition that could promote a blowout.

And yeah...whats up with that and the huge two post long sig?

Holy crap, I just realized that. I was too distracted by the extreme amount of tardbangs.

Please shrink your sig to one pic please. Thanks.

I was running 215's on the SRT rims for quite some time with no problems.

I will be selling my friend a set of SRT rims for his 1st gen on coilovers. I told him he would need 205/40/R17 tires for them to fit. Correct right? I checked Neons.org under the FAQ...

Alot of people run them, but the tire is far too wide for the width of the rim to be deemed safe by national standards. Being that the wheel is only 6" wide technically even a 205 is pushing it.

I wonder why Dodge had them 17x6 in the first place? They do have a short drop center.

Probably to save on costs, it wasn't a very bright idea IMO. A car with 250fwtq, underrated from the factory, with a 6" wide wheel? *shrugs* Cost cutting is the only thing that comes to mind when thinking of why they made that decision.

The main reason it was done was so the car would have the proper amount of clearance while turning for DOT requirements. The government dictates certain clearances for almost every point on a car, from tire to body specs to how close the exhaust hangers can be from any other component. Even with the changes Chrysler made to the rack and knuckles (ever wonder why the are different?) they couldn't get the clearance for a wider wheel and meet DOT without making some structural changes.

Ever notice the PT has 7" wheels? Same suspension set-up, different fender well size.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...
