Front Strut Bar Fitment

Post by Nutmeg » Wed Aug 27, 2008 5:01 pm

I've been thinking about getting a front strut bar. I have an SRT motor swap, but still have my SXT hood. I don't quite remember the difference between the SRT and SXT bars. Does it have to do with hood fitment, or motor fitment? Which one can I get and be safe? Also, I don't' want the motor torquing up against the bar causing damage.

Thanks.

Ah, kids today with their short attention spans.

Sorry, I kid

The SRT bar is the best choice for your engine, but it will contact the hood. How much varies from car to car it seems. Here is how mine did before the hood swap...

Cutting the hood pad tabs fixed the problem for me...

Is that the DC Sports bar? I don't really want to cut my hood again... Ugh. Did adding it make a noticeable difference?

The DC Sports bar and Mopar bar are basically the same thing. His appears to be the Mopar one, which is what I have front and rear.

I'm still rockin the vibrant tower strut bar. However, I've been hearing from some track dudes, that the front one is useless due to how close the strut towers are to the firewall. Regardless, I still use mine and it doesn't cause any problems with fitment.

Dante has it right. The tower bar from an SRT will not fit under a reg hood. Some people claim that it fits, but most have had issues so we go with the majority on this one. I personally havent tried fitting the SRT front bar, but it's on my list one of these days. Hood spacers or an srt hood swap are a quick fix.

Hood spacers? Just some washers on the hood hinges or something?

Mine are the Non-SRT Tower strut bars.

That would work. From what I understand the clearance needed is very small, so a washer or two should do the trick ;)

yeah, but it will mess with how well the hood lines up with the rest of the car. Yes we are talking slightly, but if nutmeg is considering showing his car I would recommend against it.
