Good Anti-Virus/Spyware programs?

Post by MyNeonSaysHi » Thu Aug 11, 2005 12:48 pm

I currently have Norton Antivirus 04 & WebRoot Anti-Spyware running on my comp. My Norton Antivirus is about to expire at the end of this month. I was wondering if I should:

1. Upgrade it to this. http://renewalcenter.symantec.com/store ... cription=0
(one on the far right)

2. Just renew what I have.

3. Get something else.

I heard good things about Pandaware

http://www.pandasecurity.com/magazine/

I was wondering what you guys all have, and what you would suggest.
Thanks.

i would suggest those that actively use spyware cleaning apps to check out microsofts antispyware beta. I use it at work on all of the computers at work that are suffering from spyware.

The other day i did a test on this girls pc. In total i counted 24 infected files on her pc. Adaware found only 18, Spybot found 12 and trend micro's PCillin built in spyware scanner only found a mere 4. Microsoft antispyware found 21.

I don't use Adaware anymore, though. AVG takes care of most those problems. Download HiJackThis, though. Awesome utility for more advanced users.

AVG is a very good program and its FREE! Just remember that Norton and McAfee are not the only two things out there.

I recommend AVG ... its free.
If you want to pay, get CA's EZ-Antivirus. Its really good, I run it on all the machines at work.

As for Anti-spyware....I run the following on all my machines.... Spybot SD, Spyware Blaster32, Spyware Doctor, Adaware, and Microsoft Antispyware.

My brother's swear by Webroot's Spyware Sweeper (i think that name is right, about $12 at Bestbuy)

Got to www.filehippo.com to get all the downloads for only legit software in one place... beats jumping all over the web, or digging through the crapware on download.com
Filehippo.com has ONLY the good stuff. One stop.
