no need for plate
no need for plate
ok so i got the DOHC turbo kit and im gonna be selling it cause i found an easier way. Double check my plan but i got a garret T3 turbo from the junkyard (MINT, no shaft play) for 50 bucks with mani off a Volvo. So i cut the mani off right at the end where it connects to the turbo and i welded it to the pipe between the header and the cat( im gonna take the cat off) the turbo now bolts on fine and fits mint. Idk if anyone has done this before but it was sooooo easy. no more looking for adapter plates or anything. Ill be running the pipes, lines and shit next week when it gets shipped.
Anything wrong with this setup in anyones opinion.
Also im still up in the air about the ECU what system i should use.

Re: no need for plate
depends on what kind of boost levels you are looking at running. a rrfpr cause suffice if you are planning on lower boost levels. otherwise i would seriously consider megasquirt.n20sxt wrote:Also im still up in the air about the ECU what system i should use.

Re: no need for plate
Im not gonna run more than 10 psi untill i build the bottom end, i dont wanna make more than 230hp cause im scared of blowin the motor(i heard it starts to give around 250 but i wanna be safe) what do you guys suggest for ECU? and how hard is mega squirt to handle? im really new to tunning so i dont wanna blow anything up haha.hul kogan wrote:depends on what kind of boost levels you are looking at running. a rrfpr cause suffice if you are planning on lower boost levels. otherwise i would seriously consider megasquirt.n20sxt wrote:Also im still up in the air about the ECU what system i should use.

So you're welding it to the end of the stock cast iron mani, or an aftermarket/RT header? A cast would be better for retaining heat, as the thermal expansion is what drives the turbo more so than the exhaust volume. Heat wrap would work, but IDK how durable a tubular header would be under that kind of abuse. But then the OEM cast mani is known to crack also...
It will definately be a cool project, but I would still keep funds aside for a log type SOHC turbo mani. for future use. Meh, if you fab some support brackets it should help with the added weight. Pushing the envolope is what it's about! If no one did this shit we wouldn't have half the cool things we have today.

Probably shouldn't listen to anything your penis says, that guy's a dick.
Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.Patience, of course, is a very powerful weapon, but sometimes I start to regret that it is not a firearm.
