Strange squeaking

Post by DoubtedNeon » Sun Aug 31, 2008 7:30 pm

when the car is rolling...any speed... every once and awhile (sounds like the front end btw) makes a single, rusty bed spring squeek, and they are on and off...so i have to pray it wont do it when i pass someone... any ideas?

If it doesn't happen under the circumstances that excon stated about, it could be your brake pads finishing...

Same thing I did when my brake pads were almost finished. There is a little piece of metal that sticks off the brake pad and scratches the rotor making an annoying sound that lets you know your brake pads are finishing...but then again I could be wrong, just something you should take into consideration...

Make sure you brake pads are seated properly and aren't oddly worn. If you purchased the car used I would go ahead replace rotors and pads or atleast take your rotors in to have them turned and do pads that way you know how long you have before next change. Neons come equipped with cool noises from factory like tics clicks clunks and squeeks

I'm guessing that means the same thing as machined? serious question btw. :quotes:

Mine to this day does the same thing, is it just a matter of tightening the pedal or something?

Yeah if you have enough rotor they can be turned down and reworked or"machined" by most garages and some parts stores. As for the gas pedal oil the pins in the assembly and make sure the throttle cable is tight but not too tight cause that could squeek

Check your bushings. I'm going to be getting the full bushing kit from Energy suspension here in a week or so. I know that a couple of mine are dry rotted and need to be replaced.

Less deflection on hard accelleration/braking. I agree with the bushings, mine squeaked horribly till I did the ES bushings. The sway bushings can also squeak.

I would put money of the sway bar bushings since they are the one that are constantily flexing and expanding. Not only due to the physics, but due to weather as well.

Moved you to the Suspension/Brake topic since it is a good bet your noise is in one of those two areas
