Needed a lil Hemi Orange in my life...

Post by supertrick_05 » Wed Sep 03, 2008 9:32 pm

Well as some of you know, I bought a "chrome" ceramic-coated Magnum intake manifold from the Mancini Racing booth at Carlisle...for $50 :D I dropped it off at Crystalmarie's place when we were chillin to have it stripped and coated with another color, but I never took a close look at it till I was at her house. They coated the ENTIRE manifold with ceramic coating, meaning they had all the bolts installed, all put together, and coated the entire fucking thing, including the surface where the gasket goes to install to the head! Crystal even told me that there were spots where it was chipping off! I was pissed, to say the least. I'm glad I only paid $50 for it! Here's a pic I took with my phone right after I bought it:
Image

Then I bought a Magnum valve cover from hul_kogan that had already been shaved and such, but was still a lil rough, so the guy who powder coats had to finish it a lil more to make a smooth surface for the powdercoat. Here's how it arrived at Crystal's house:

Anyways, so I got a call from Crystalmarie today, saying that my parts were done. When she got home, she sent me a bunch of pics of them...here's just a few for a "teaser".

Mag valve cover:

Mag intake manifold:

The color is Hemi Orange, to make it an authentic Mopar color. She's going to find a box to ship them back to me and give me a quote on the shipping charges when she has time.

BIG thanks goes out to the lovely Crystalmarie for helping me out with this...I greatly appreciate her helping with this and a few other things as well. Thanks a bunch hun, I gots LOTS of love for ya! :love7:

Oh you are most welcome. I'll swing the gasket surface by the guys at Simplex and see what they say. Maybe I'll drop by there tomorrow or Friday. Their prices are reasonable...we shall see. :) All in all they look lovely....chilling on my bed.

Honestly the worst thing was that Mancini ceramic coated the friggin gasket surface and the manifold TOGETHER! Who does that!? :banghead: :cussing:

you got one hell of a deal on that. Personally i like the polished look, but the orange will look sick on your car.

Yeah, the polished look DID look good, but it was chipping off in places, plus I wanted to see if Crystal's friend could dissolve all of the coating and take the manifold apart, but he said that he would have needed to drill the bolts out, and the manifold would have been mangled if he had to do that. So he just re-coated it as one piece. Oh well... :banghead:

As long as the butterflys move it should be fine as 1 piece. A little time on the mill will clean the gasket surface down perfect

Crystalmarie = God when it comes to helping people

Parts look good! Should improve the look of your engine bay over the cracking valve cover you have now

i always wanted to see what the VC would look like after i shaved it and added a nice coating, but when i went 2.4 i didn't have much use for it. it looks awesome and i'm glad to see it go to a good home. can't wait for installed pics.

Thanks everyone! Yes, Opi...the cracked valve cover will be up for sale as soon as I get all the gaskets and such to install the new one. The cracks really aren't noticeable when it's installed...nobody at the car show saw them until I pointed them out, and they still couldn't really see them. It's still a real nice paint job...nice-n-smooth...with a few cracks in the paint :D

Damn...that reminds me...I must shop for all the neccessary gaskets needed to install the vc and intake manifold. Not a cheap task by any means!

^Yes it is the felpro intake gasket set is like $6.99 and that gets you both gaskets. You could get away with a 95 intake gasket that should be even cheaper. Get the felpro VC gasket set as well something like $23 you could just clean and reuse the old one

The Mopar vc gasket is $12 and the manifold-to-head gasket is $4. The spark plug seal tubes are $6 each and a valve cover bolt is $7 each, but only need one (snapped the front middle one last time I changed valve covers). Are Felpro gaskets much better than Mopar gaskets?

Other than stripping the Chevrolet orange paint off of the injector cover and redoing it with custom-mixed paint to match the powdercoat color, no. I was on the fence about doing the upper motor mount, but decided I'm going to polish it instead. I don't want too much orange. I'm going to have to do something a lil different with the injector cover as well, so there's not too much orange. I did a chop of what it would look like:
