sunroof motors

Post by haste4daylight » Mon Sep 08, 2008 11:31 pm

today i took off my headliner to get a good look at the sunroof motor in my car because my sunroof slighly opens then begins to click loudly. When i removed the motor i notice that the revolving gear spins a full 360 degrees but after about a quarter turn it sounds like it wants to give out or something. Would anybody suggest getting a new motor or is it possible that my sunroof is only ment to open just a slight bit. I seen my friends 2002 R/T sunroof and it only opens a slight bit but none of the clicking noise.

Describe slight bit?? The Sunroof should retract upwards an inch or so and then back almost completely. If it doesn't do that, and the motor is clicking (probably binding) you should look into a new motor.

it shifts upwards and slides wants to slide back but stops after a few cm and then starts to click.

Either somethings getting in the way of it, or the motor is binding up.

mine does this too (2000 plymouth neon lx) but mine, the rear only goes up like half an inch, doesnt even go up all the way, let alone going back and opening.....and when it stops, it makes a loud clicking noise......i was gonna see if i could fix it, but will the headliner be the same if removed/replaced?

Should be. Just be careful not to bend and/or stain it when removing and replacing.

i took off my headliner and put it back on no problem, and i actually took a better look and my sunroof only goes up a little bit and not even back, my mistake lol. I called up a junk yard for a motor and they told me $100.

Do you know anyone else with one that you could swap just to be sure that the motor is the problem.
