Battery Light and Problems

Post by Mopar65 » Tue Sep 09, 2008 3:26 pm

When I bought my 03 SXT shortly after the battery light came on and I replaced the factory battery. That wasn't the problem and it turned out to be the alternator was dying/dead and the "power cable" coming off the alternator was blown/shorted out in three different places. That was about two months ago. This past saturday night it came on again for about 45 seconds after starting the car then it went away. Then about 2 minutes later it came on at a stop light for about 10 seconds. It hasn't come on since, but I'm a little worried. Granted when it came on the other day I had the lights on, the aftermarket fogs on, the radio, and the defroster on all at the same time. Any ideas or similar problems out there? Thanks.

Check the cable from the alternator to the starter, belt tension, and cable connections. They may have worked loose. Maybe run a heavier gauge wire directly from the alternator to the battery.

if i remember that lights comes on when it detects a global voltage of less than 12 or 11 volts. if you got a brand new BATT and a band new alternator with brand new cables the only thing it could possibly be is your belt tension or your main ground cables are shot too

It hasn't come on since so I think the ground may have just been a little glithcy/loose because it has been loose before. Thanks.
