paralyzer's plans have changed due to a death :(

Post by Paralyzer » Mon Sep 15, 2008 1:09 am

I know it will get stuff started, but heck it is what I am thinking about.

I have had the thought about the car in it's current state it is in. I have done several things to the outside of the car and started on the interior of the car, but nothing much on the performance side. I don't really want to worry about the up keep on the performance part of it. Sooooo.....in theory I have come to the decision to make my life a living hell and do something that 90% percent of you guys on here will say can't be done. And that is to turn the Neon from a tuner style car into a luxary style car. I know I know, you are like what the heck is wrong with this guy, but I am up for the challenge.. To be honest, I have thought about this for a good while. I have a lot of things already pointed out to use and designs drawn out to change my interior to something more lux style and comfortable. I will be keeping the kit I have, but my whole goal to this project will be to make the car look the way that I think it should have come from the factory. All the work will be done by me and this is kiind of a dream of mine to do. You always see cars in magizine looking some way that you couldn't not imagine it could look. I have been working on this project already for a while now, but have not said much of anything about it. But Anyhow you guys can bash me on this if you want to, I don't care. Just something that I have had on my mind and I guess kinda wanting to see what everyone else will say about the idea.

not trying to bash your idea but you do realize you drive a neon right? if you could somehow swap the whole interior with a maserati i would still think its a cheap econo car. i get the idea of making it more comfortable but i think you're just creating a money pit for yourself. what have you planned on doing/changing?

No pics at the moment, but the interior is out of it and I am awaiting all of my suede to arrive so I can get started on the interior. I still have a lot of fiberglass work to do before I get to that part though.

The problem I've been having is I'm not quite sure if I want to go the luxury route or the performance route, so I have no idea what kind of suspension I should get.

Also, I've noticed that in Lamborghinis, they've got suede. Suede is $20 a yard at the local fabric store. I also have plans of custom-fabbing a new dash so I can put an analog clock there as well as the digital one I'll have on my deck.

Not sure if I want to go with the stock 300C head unit or get something aftermarket. Does anyone know if the 300C headunit has AV plugs in the back?

Another problem with luxury is the price tag. But good luck! I'll help if I can and we can share advice.

I saw this 2003 accord, nice car, with bumper stickers ALL OVER IT! Unfortuneately I wasn't able to get a picture of it in time :( But yeah, post pics, and it's your car, do what you want! :) :) :)

 I personally would at least like to upgrade my seating to something better for long trips. As for suspension you will need a little higher ride height, if lowered: for suspension travel, but keep the shock valving a little firm and better than SE/SXT sways and it should ride decent and still have respectable handling. Staying with 15" wheels and more sidewall will also help noise reduction and sharp feedback from frost joints in the road.

Nope, they don't. No Mopar head unit does. Sorry :(

haha i wasn't trying to be dick guys. i'm all for being original and trying new ideas. i'm just one guy with an opinion, just like the rest of you. who's to say your opinion is better than mine? yes, it's his car and his money so he can do whatever he wants with it, what i say should have no impact on his decision. it seems like lately people have been really defensive, quick to judge, and get butthurt real easy. meh, i think that's all for now.

lol, wasn't expecting people to bash each other, just me so calm down guys. I am doing this because it is my car and let me tell you.....at this point in time I don't worry about it being a "neon". I can't even go to a major car show now days and not be accused of driving a damn Impreza. I am so tired of that. I have been called a lier from a judge before and he disqualified me for telling him it was a neon. Since that happened I hung a poster from my tent at the show stating how much of an idiot the judges are and that the show needed some real judges. But anyhow, I like the "lux" style and being comfy. I know it is my money but too, if you guys don't really know me from the day I joined here, most of you do not know the connections I have to parts and suppliers to do the stuff I want, also a lot of this stuff that I want to do will have to be fabbed up by me so it save money and that way it will be one of a kind. I will get pics posted as soon as I can and i will start a progress log as well.

Lamborghinis have Alcantara...a much HIGHER grade material than your average $20 a yard upholstery suede. Just an FYI.

I think what you plan to do will be awesome. I haven't seen your car though so I'm unsure as to how someone can mistake it for an impreza. I'd like to see it finished.

I support you! I think it's a great idea. Luxury huh? I wouldn't know what to do!

Wooden dash. Check the 300M, 300C, and Stratus. See if any parts will swap over. You also want to look for brushed aluminum as well. See if you could swap over a steering wheel from a charger or (don't laugh) the new Caravan. Also do something about the seats and get a leather interior. The charger shifter looks pretty good as well...

those are just a few suggestions, but keep us posted!

thanx for posting those Theteejmiester. Here is a plan for what I am going to do:

Change my color matched radio bezel to brushed alum

fab up a counter-sink frame for my 7" touchscreen monitor for my CarPc

trim out the A/C vents on the sides with brushed rings

Put some brushed rings around the gauges

Black leather the dash

Black leather the seats with white stiching and white inserts

Remove the center console completely and make my own console (rasied higher, Ipod holder, custom arm rest, One peice extending to go up the center of the back seats with acrylic windows showing the wires going through it for the audo lined with white vinyl inside with blue lighting)'

custom headliner along with custom pillars wraped to match dash with cusomt tweeter pods in them with proper direction.

Custom door panels with white accent

Sound deaden all interior while in progress of parts removed.

Extend the shifter to accomidate the new height in the console

The line that runs on each side of the dash about mid height that goes over the glove box, I will make a custom brushed aluminum peice to go the length of the dash and to where it wraps into the door panels as well.

Custom rear dash to allow the audio from the trunk to come into the cabin and hold a pair of mid-bass subs.

Redo my trunk with wrap-around design with 15" sub behind seat counter-sunk front frame and the amps counter-sunk behind each tire well. In the spare tire area I will have a spare battery along with a 19" flip up LCD monitor and a spot to hold my laptop for my CarPc.In the back of the sub box behind the seat will have an acrylic window to see through when the seats are folded down.

I am sure I will come up with other things as get into the project more but these are just a few ideas I have for now. I have been working on a draft of the design I am wanting so once I finish that I will post those to show you guys.

Sounds pretty damned good to me!!! Custom arm rest ey? Glad I won't be the only one. Are you raising the entire console? Or just the part in front of the arm rest where the shifter and cupholders are? That would be sweet, but a higher console (in the rear portion) plus an arm rest might be too high.

BTW love the car.....

here are some of my inspirations that gave me some of my ideas to do. The first one is of the dash and the second one is of the rear seat area'
