Tips for getting better gas mileage?

may as well add my $0.02. i do about 25-25k a year for work, 05 sxt manual, and i avg about 31 with my 50/50 mixed driving. as others have stated on long freeway trips i have hit as high as 36.

Not a neon, but another case. I have an 08 Pontial Vibe automatic trans for a rental car. Yesterday I got 32.5mpg and i'm pretty sure i short filled it so when i filled it yesterday the MPG read low.

I drove to OKC today and I haven't used half a tank yet (don't know how accurate the gauges are or how big the tank is) and I have driven about 230miles. I'll be filling it up tomorrow before I leave OKC, or maybe tonight.

In both cases I just drive. Granted most was highway driving, but this was driving 70-75mph and what ever the road gave me. So it would shift down to 3rd and get buzzing to climb a hill. The drive up to OKC today was a little flatter than the driving I did yesterday.
