Big Project. Need help

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Big Project. Need help

Post by unleashedcc » Mon Sep 15, 2008 11:47 pm

So far I have purchase the bottom end kit and top end kit from Modern and other parts from members here on the forums. I am trying to go with a fully built motor non turbo. What else do I need to make it run? I was told I might need a stand alone for tuning and upgrade the fuel, correct?

Parts bought:

•Mopar Rod Bearing Set
•Mopar Main Bearing Set
•JE Piston Rings
•JE Pistons 10.5:1
•Oil Pump (standard)
•Eagle Specialty Forged Connecting Rods (Rods are non directional installation wise)
•Oil Pan Gasket Set (includes rear main seal)
•8 Intake Hydraulic Roller Rockers
•4 Exhaust Hydraulic Roller Rockers
•Timing Belt
•Mopar complete MLS Head Gasket Set
•Crane SOHC Cam 158-0014 (#14)
•AEM Adjustable Cam Gear
•Crane Valve Springs use with stock retainers
•MPx Under drive Pulley with Alternator and Power steering/air condition Belts
•R/T head
•R/T PCM (plug and play)
•LT Headers
•R/T Intake Manifold
•R/T tranny
•60mm TB
•Full exhaust
•R/T AEM CAI
•Nology Spark plug wires

The install is going to run about 2,500$ but I need to know if there is anything I need to get before I send in the car. Thank you

If your going to use an r/t pcm, your probably ok but there is a chance the crank trigger wheel on the crank is different from r/ts to base models. Also in case you accidently left it off your list you will need the gauge cluster from an r/t as well. I don't think you can just flash vin into the pcm because you have a non r/t vin #. Other than that you look good to go, good luck, and have fun! Paul.

Well we bought an SRT cluster with 20k. As far as the PCM, we did buy an NGC R/T PCM and had the vin flashed. The car we are building is an 03 MTX. I hope everything goes good, would love to see the numbers :)

I'd suggest an SAFC-Neo or at least SAFC II to lean out the fuel mixture at idle. With that Crane 14, you're definitely going to be running pig rich at idle and throw a CEL. :cussing:

I'd put in a new water pump while you got everything apart.
