Repost.

I look at it this way- the driver's door didn't pop open at the latch, the driver wasn't ejected, the airbag did exactly what it was supposed to do, etc. After viewing this video, I still feel safe in my Neon.

Yeah the airbag did it's job that's my point. I was going to get an aftermarket steering wheel but after watching this video...ouch!

It's pretty common knowledge that if you install an aftermarket steering wheel, you should put in racing seats with at least a 4 point harness for safety.

Hate to threadjack, but...

In regards to a 4 pt. harness: I've thought about doing this and leaving in the stock seatbelts in case the passenger wants to attach the stock belt. Would we need to install a harness bar to the B pillars or could you rig them up to work without one? Also, could the stock seats be used?

I don't see why you couldn't install a harness with stock seats without a bar, but I would get actual lightweight racing seats with pass-thru harness slots. I'd also not let a passanter use the shoulder belt if I pulled the front airbags, for liability reasons.

It's illegal to have a 4 or 5 point harness installed in your car, even if the stock belt is still functional, in some states. It's illegal to remove any front airbag from a street car in all states. Keep that in mind when you're trying to decide on mods like these.

Guess I'll just go with an 03+ steering wheel but the airbags that are always sold separately are sooooo damn expensive. I hate the pre 03 steering wheels.

The 00-02 wheels are more comfortable to use.

Also, any way to custom mod the stock steering wheel to add buttons to control the radio, etc.?

Meh. I have both air bags out of my car, and aftermarket wheel, and racing seats. I don't care. Neons suck when it comes to crash safety anyway. I could care less about breaking a leg..it is the whole messing up my paint and body work I am going to be pissed about.
