What was your favorite toy?

Post by 60trim » Sun Sep 21, 2008 4:18 pm

I was in the store the other day with my friend who had brought his son with him. We were standing in the toy isle and I had a nostalgic moment remembering back to my youngin days. I'd say mine were Legos. You could build anything. :rockon:
2003 Silver SXT - Totalled
2005 Silver Subaru Legacy 2.5GT Turbo -Daily
1990 White SR powered 240sx - My sliding slut.

I miss my neon at times. She treated me well and taught me a lot about cars in general. I will always have a special place in my heart for these cars. Heres to the 2gn community.

Do other little girls count?

No I did not consider them toys, but unlike the other little boys I used to like to hang out with the little girls.

To heck with the toys!

Here are some of my favorite toys from when I was a kid:
1) Kenner Spirograph;
2) Mattel's Creepy Crawlers;
3) Legos;
4) Matchbox cars (I had nearly one hundred of them from the late 60s and early 70s- needed some money so I sold them about five years ago) :cussing: .

Two other ones that I really liked:
1) Little gyroscopes or tops made by Mattel that looked like tiny hot air balloons- you could rev them up and they would go spinning across the floor by themselves;
2) Toy made by Wham-O that was like a gyroscope on a hand-held wire thingy. You could put psychedelic cardboard punchouts in the center of the gyroscope and watch the colors spin as you moved it up and down and in and out on the wire thingy.

Sure wish that I could remember the names of these last two toys!

Okay, on a serious note... childhood toys...

-Building plastic models: Mostly cars but there was a mix of other fun stuff.

-Meccano: I still have the steam engine.

-Tonka toys: The construction set... bulldozer, cement mixer, shovel. Still have that old beat up bulldozer... loved it back then and still cannot part with it. lol.

-Wagon: Oh yeah! Me and my buddies would take the wagon over to the infamous "20th street hill" and go barreling down... usually landing up in a pile at the bottom after crashing.

-The backyard: WTF yer sayin'... for a few years when I was a tyke my parents left the backyard unfinished and at the beginning of each summer would get a small load of sand that I would spend the rest of the summer moving around with the Tonka bulldozer. In the winter my dad used to make a skating rink on it.

-Bicycle: Not only did I ride it but would actually work on it over the off-season. lol

-Car racing set: Spent many many hours with this. They were selling the sets at the Chrysler dealership... actually made by Strombecker. my dad came out with 2 sets under his arms. The cars were replica's of the 1966 Barracuda. I think my dad enjoyed this as much as I did.

Wow... just found that racing set online. Someone has one still intact they are selling for $125. Does that ever bring back memories!

-Hot Wheels (I used to race them down the trailer ramps every saturday at the drag strip)
-erector set (I had every set. I used a truck from something else, and made a trailer and dragster. I'm talking 5th wheel kind of trailer)

I've always had an interest in model trans, cars and R/Cs. Just never had the ability to really get into them. Hopefully that will change soon when I get my own house.
