Post by Bluerocketsneeks » Sun Sep 28, 2008 11:12 am

I highly doubt there is anything quicker, why not just pick up a new/used dash pad?

cause there is nothing really wrong with it besides teh peeling and im sending it out for the grate and speaker grates to be painted so the surface can be fixed easily if its preped by removing it

PLUS

its starting to peel on my center dash too... and im not taking that all out to replace

there has to be some way.. between the two dash's, it would take me a week if i spent a few hours a day picking at it

Which pieces are you talking about? The dash pad itself? What is a center dash?

the dash pad is the top peice correct? That is what is peeling and thats what i have to prep to be sent out..

also by the middle dash im refering to the piece the HVAC bezel attaches to

Ahhh okay thats what got me confused was the middle dash. And yes the Dash pad is the top piece, the dash itself is that large section.

The dash itself is a royal PIA on these cars with all the metal framework and the HVAC tubing. All sorts of fun, did it on an 00 plymouth I bought to part out. I've never heard of a dash peeling though thats strange as all hell.

Yep, I've seen it before as well. My brother in laws is peeling on his '01 Plymouth Neon. The top vinyl layer is just cracking and flaking off on the passenger side edge.

I have no idea what an easy way to get it all off would be. i can't think of anything other than just redoing it with some other material over top of it.

Hmm - then sand it down, paint it, sell it for more and buy a new factory one....

yeah, why don't you just get a 'new' used one if you want it to look factory? I'm sure you can find one pretty cheap.

Oh THAT is something completely different. This area is more complicated. I think you only have 2 choices: Changing or painting the whole dashboard + spend some more work in the whole interieur...

My guess is that replacing it isnts easy.. And expensive... ugh this is so dissappointing...

Im surprised this isn't a big problem among other neons

What have you done with your dashboard? Removing the whole dashboard isn't that complicated - it's all made bei LEGO...

In that case it probably was. Armor All + Chrysler dashes = lifting and cracking. Theres actually notations in some Chrysler service manuals about this issue. I'd just pick up a used one, and sand and paint the other one if you don't want to replace it.

Thats why I said sand and paint it. Just buy SEM interior colors so it matches its current color.

ill definitely try if its worth it most of the stuff is out of the interior anyway.. well i dont want to sand it smooth... and im really afaid of bubbling and more peeling... i tried painting a bezel once.. spend 2 days prepping it and after a few days in the car it looked like a sprayed it with spary paint in about 10 seconds

have you done this before?

You don't have to sand it smooth, just scuff the hell out of it with a gray scuff pad so no more of it is peeling. Then pick up some bulldog adhesion promoter so it will be a nice surface for the paint to adhere to. Then respray it with the interior spray.

I did it to my pillars, check out my How to in the HT-Interior forum.

Not in my car, but in a 2000 Plymouth I did. The airbags are the most dangerous part, I made sure my hands were soaking wet when I took them out and the ACM was unplugged. Then the steering wheel (you need a clockspring puller) was a PIA without the proper tool. Vents are easy, but there are ALOT of bolts hiding all over the place that makes it a PIA the first time you do it. Oh and the interior wiring harness gets in the way....hardcore.

removal

Post by Bluerocketsneeks » Wed Oct 01, 2008 12:06 pm

Well I've removed a few dash boards but not in a neon... mines a 2000 plymouth.. The battery is out and everything.. How long did it take you after all the panels and airbags were removed... my interior is stripped right now anyway
