turbo question....

Post by 02goldse » Mon Sep 29, 2008 10:44 am

going to local yard one of these days and getting a 2.0L and im going to try and build it and possibly boost it or just boost my 2.0 in my car now... now for the question if a turbo is universal then a stock t25 from a tsi or aftermarket 16g like the ones in evos would they fit because i looked on this site turbokits.com and they had a kit and it said in the neon kit mitsu 16g turbo and was just wondering if it fits...im doing this project because i dont know what else to do to the damn atx neon nemore and dont have the money as of now tho rebuild the engine but if i can get a stock srt-4 turbo or t25 if it fits ill run with that on low boost...let me know

The turbo itself might be universal but it has to A. fit inside the engine bay and B. work with a manifold that fits on the car. So in reality you can't just grab any turbo from a junkyard and toss it on the car.

They were, but not the turbo engines.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

The biggest problem you will run into is mounting a turbo manifold. You will need either...

1- A SRT turbofold with an adapter for the head

2- A Mexican 2.4 manifold with an adapter for the head

3- A Hahn manifold for a 2.0

every once in a while, there are t3/t4 2.0 manifolds on e-bay.

you could fab up your own manifold like im doing, if you have some knowledge with welding and someway to cut threw the stock header then you should be all set. and you can just make your own adapter out of 1/2 steel, ill get pics of it up soon, its not hard at all. A plasma cutter is sorta key on this though if you dont wanna spend like 20 hours cutting threw that crap.
cut down the collector on the header and Weld a 90 collector off the header and you should have enough room. Idk how strong the stock manifold is but ill let you know if it works when im done
Junkyard is the way to go

I myself am building a equal length manifold for my 35R project. I took off the stock manifold put some paint on the flange part then stamped it on paper. Traced the out line on the manifold, took it to an engineer to cut a flange. Just welding up the pipes now. It will be twin scroll for flow chararcteristics. Good luck with your build.

cost me about 400 to cut the flange itself. Its made out of 1/2" stainless steel. The piping itself is schedule 20.
