Questions about axles, transmissions, differentials, pretty much anything that connects the engine to the wheels, this is the place for those questions.

it will fit. BUT it's very heavy.
I'm not sure what the gains would be as far as fuel milage since it has such a HUGE final geat and gets the srt to 150, but the weight would definitely aid in losing some mpg...

Why the NVG-T850 and not the NVG-T350. Are you really planning on making that much power?
The T350 would probably be cheaper anyways.
I think the final drive on the T-850 is around 3.50

The NVG-T350 will handle a fair amount of power. Krackstar still has his with the 2.4T, plus he has those massive 20" wheels (extra strain). Unless you are aiming for 400hp I wouldn't worry about it.
Preparing for someone to prove me wrong.

esteinmaier put doen 250 or 260 iirc through the T350 and clicked off a 12.7 (i think) on a set of slicks with the T350.

Thats an instant tenth in the quarter mile, let alone the difference in the rotating mass.

I'm at 300 hp on the stock srt turbo and am still using the t-350. I plan on going all the way to 400 on turbo then a 50 shot of nitrous on top of that.
The only thing you need to do is upgrade the diff or get saver tabs for the stock one.
SRT-4 trans have input/syncro problems when the t-350 trans has diff/gear problems if too much power is put into them.
To me id rather spend 100 or less on a 1st/2gn t-350 as a replacement then another 1000+ to replace the T-850 when they break.

I've seen trannys in good condition go for cheap...T850 isn't always an arm and a leg, you gotta look for the deals.

meh still more than getting a t-350 but i guess me having t-350's laying around and a ton more avail. sways what i would use.
In this persons case 2-300hp he does not need the t-850

Agreed. Go with the T-350. It's lighter, more plentiful, and cheaper in almost all cases used. Why burden yourself with extra weight if you don't have to?
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Stronger is only better when you need it. Otherwise stronger is more rotating and dead weight.
It would be like an engineer using 1" thick steel plate to hold 50lbs, even though significantly less steel can hold that weight.

Like everyone else said, If you are planning to go big turbo or over 300hp then go ahead and get a T-850.
Hell, I probably will be whenever my ATX bites the dust. *crosses fingers*

I am constantly hearing about syncro problems with the T850. I don't really hear any of you guys bitching about your trannys. Although my friends T850 when he was around 400hp busted up, so don't think they can take constant abuse

I swapped a T-850 trans and can say it sure doesnt feel like no 199lbs unless that includes the mod. clutch. Yes it is heavier than a T-350 (but about the same as an atx) but it is significantly beefier, its a getrag tranny easily capable of handling 450hp. Another thing to consider is what you really want to do with you car? I know with 330hp in a t-850 1st is almost pointless and second goes by hella fast too... (why you would want to make that worse IDK) So you may want to consider your porpose...track, drag, DD. Also no one mentioned the fact that the T-850 uses equal length half shafts which is a huge plus in eliminating torque steer, and if you get an 04-5 t-850 you get a quaife LSD. (You would have to fab an intermediate half shaft brace but that was cake, I've done it). Im not saying the T-350 bad, but around the the 250+ marker I dont think its worth it.
PS: That extra weight is over your driven wheels, thus giving you more weight because the coefficient of friction x Mass = traction
