Thinking about doing some slight mods Need your opinions

Post by PioneerUrban » Tue Sep 30, 2008 7:27 pm

I have never been much for doing any type of mods, except for tints and vent visors.

But, I'm seriously thinking about upgrading and changing my head and tail lights, and possibly adding a mesh grille insert.

For me, this is wild. Don't get me wrong, I am awed by what ya'll have done to your cars and I really like looking at them. I can tell that ya'll have taken great pride in your Neon's.

Since I bought mine, I had every mechanical thing that was wrong, repaired and had all the body work done to it. I just got it out of the body shop this past week and the guys at the body shop did awesome work.

I had my hood fixed, left front fender fixed, front bumper cover fixed and all repainted and even the back bumper cover I had it repainted.

Changing out my lights, is a big mod step for me, so I need ya'll opinions.

I like the projector lights like these:

I don't inderstand what the diffrence is between these, other that the three dot light are in different places?

Tail Lights:

On the tails, I really like the red ones, since my car is red. I think that they would look great.

Grill Insert:

This pic is probably small. There's one on the ACR thread. That's where I got the idea.

I'm also going to have my windows tinted.

I'm also curious if anyone has had any problems with water leaks, when they changed thiers out.

Opinions, advice, etc.... is appreciated.

Thanks!

I like the headlights, but not in clear. I black housing would look much better. As for tail lights, The last ones look sick to me. They seem cleaner than the others...

On the taillights either the CLK's (first ones) or the last ones. On the headlights I agree that black would look better than the chrome.

Water leaks as to what? Getting your windows tinted?

Apologizes for not clarifying what I meant about the water leaks.

I had read on a post here that someone who changed thier tails, experienced water leaks, due the tail not being the correct size.

I was just wondering if anyone else had that same problem. I would hate to purchase these and find water in the trunk the first time it rained.

Thank you for all of your suggestions! They are really helpful. I tried asking my wife what she thought and she agrees with me, without giving her opinion, just so I'll shut up about these lights.

I like the CLKSs, and the last one. They remind me of Cobalt taillights. I also like the smoked clear, but its not worth the hassle. They're illegal and you'll get pulled over for them. I agree with everyone else. Black housing headlights, not chrome.

Also, its the the gasket that makes the tail lights leak and it can and will happen with sock lights if theyre worn out as well. I have aftermarket lights and as far as I know they don't leak, but I never looked either.

Does anyone happen to have the black projectors installed on their Neon, that they happen to have a pic of and will post, so I can see what they look like on the car?

For the headlights:
the 3 spots are different and the blinkers also.
The headlights with the spots on the side (don't know how to translate right) are better if you wanna install s-style eyelids in the future...

I have had a pair of aftermarket tails on my car for over a year now, the Mopar ones, and have not had a problem with leaks, even going through tropical storm weather and such. Like someone else mentioned it's really about the gasket and not so much the light itself. If the gasket covers the entire opening you won't have that problem. I'd suggest, if you do buy some aftermarket tails, to only buy them new as you can then ensure the gasket is not worn out or stretched.

Good luck with your whole process though. You say only headlights and tail lights now, next you'll be asking what all you need to do a 2.4 turbo build. ;)

Edit: Also I'd suggest taking some clear RTV, like the stuff you can buy at Home Depot and applying some to the seal of your headlights if you get a pair, this will help ensure they won't fog up and collect water on the inside. It's not a common problem to my knowledge, but it is a problem, and always better safe then sorry.

Black housing projector lights just installed:

I had the chrome ones like you posted but my car got backed into and broke the mounts and was bought a set of blacks. I love them now.

You don't have the tail lights I have in your lsit of them but I am going to convert to the smoked CLK's soon. I think they look sweet.
