Strange Noises

Post by Chris04sxt » Fri Oct 03, 2008 1:39 pm

I have 2 noises, that sound like it could be in the suspension but I'm just not sure.

The first I hear when i get above 20-25 mph. It sounds like a card in the spokes of a bicycle. It does it when driving straight and on right turns, but not on left turns at least that i can hear.

The second one sounds like it's coming from the front right wheel area. I can only hear it when I'm below 20 mph, but maybe that's because the road noise and stuff blocks it out when going faster. It almost sounds like the noise a thin metal rod makes when you drop it on end. It happens anytime I'm rolling along in traffic or whatever, and it's constant not just when i hit a bump or pothole.

Any ideas??

Brand new pads and rotors on the front. I'll have to check the axles and boots.

The strange thing is, I had that clicking noise before and replaced the lower control arm bushing and tie rod end, and the noise went away for a couple weeks.

Sorry to resurrect an oldddddddd topic, but I get the lovely privilege of hearing the "card in a bicycle spoke" noise, too. Chris, did you ever figure out what was the problem?

I hear the noise and it sounds like it's coming from the right-front wheel area. There's another noise (I'm guessing something suspension-related) that kind of sounds like a squeak -- but it's usually only when I'm braking when I hear it.

Suggestions, anyone?

Chris's noise may have been a wheel bearing, as it did it turning one way but not the other.

This sounds a lot like the problem I'm having that started when it began to get cooler out... Sounds like the card in bicycle wheel/vibration noise when driving before the car gets warmed up. I'm not sure if it's an axle or perhaps the gears in the transmission making noise because they are dry. It's irritating though!

So mine definitely only does it when it's cool/cold. Yesterday the car was "fine" as in no vibration noise. It has to be transmission related...

It is still experiencing misfiring during acceleration sometimes. I replaced the plug wires and the problem went away for about a week... then came back. Retorqued all the spark plugs, problem went away for a few days... then came back... I don't knoc if it could be a bad o2 sensor or perhaps IAC or even cam position sensor. No CELs though and it's highly annoying
