My sisters '01 had this issue, however it WAS the top hat. It was completely shot. My dad replaced it, noise went away.
PM me for your 03+ PCM SKIM/VIN flashing needs. Neon PCMs Plus
Check the rear sway-bar bushings first, they could be squeaking......c987long wrote:i think im crazy enough 2 try it
mine used to do that, white lithium took care of it !!!!

might be a far cry but i had a squeak that was driving me nuts on the rear passenger side and when i got it in the air i discovered that the charcoal canister mounting bracket had bent slightly and rubbed on the brace right beside it. i couldnt bend it back because it was too mangled but its been off for 20k with no squeaks since.

Ditto on the lithium grease. that'll help for a while but if the sqeak comes back then it's time to replace them. But this only applies if you have a 2000, an SRT or have added an aftermarket stabilizer bar. '01 and newer didn't come with rear stabilizer bars (wierd). my '01 doesn't have them and none of the ones i've worked on that were newer than 2000 had them.latief wrote:Check the rear sway-bar bushings first, they could be squeaking......c987long wrote:i think im crazy enough 2 try it

Gimme some chopsticks, I wanna eat rice!
All 2000's came with a rear swaybar standard. In 2001-2005 they did not come standard unless you got a R/T or an ACR. It became part of a handling package after 2000.01NeonSnooZer wrote:But this only applies if you have a 2000, an SRT or have added an aftermarket stabilizer bar. If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Hmmm, interesting, my car's an '01 ES model and it came w/ a rear swaybar stock...
Official "I drove my Neon till it died" member #??? Parted out the '01 so that she can live on through others! (Now driving + modding my '09 Chevy HHR SS!)
