Post by c987long » Mon Oct 06, 2008 10:08 pm

i have an annoying squeak comming from that i think is to be the rear shocks, i took them out and painted the tops but it continues, so i dont think that it is the top hats, any ideas. Sprongs old? blown shock?

My sisters '01 had this issue, however it WAS the top hat. It was completely shot. My dad replaced it, noise went away.

Check the rear sway-bar bushings first, they could be squeaking......

mine used to do that, white lithium took care of it !!!!

might be a far cry but i had a squeak that was driving me nuts on the rear passenger side and when i got it in the air i discovered that the charcoal canister mounting bracket had bent slightly and rubbed on the brace right beside it. i couldnt bend it back because it was too mangled but its been off for 20k with no squeaks since.

Ditto on the lithium grease. that'll help for a while but if the sqeak comes back then it's time to replace them. But this only applies if you have a 2000, an SRT or have added an aftermarket stabilizer bar. '01 and newer didn't come with rear stabilizer bars (wierd). my '01 doesn't have them and none of the ones i've worked on that were newer than 2000 had them.

All 2000's came with a rear swaybar standard. In 2001-2005 they did not come standard unless you got a R/T or an ACR. It became part of a handling package after 2000.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...
