Good old days? When I was pumping gas for a living back in '78, regular was around .78. I can't remember if this was for leaded or unleaded.cbjones26 wrote:holy i live in the wrong state!! upstate ny reg gas cheapest is 2.39gal 87 .. i wish it was 1.25 a gal again like back in the good ol days..lol...

anyone here think the gas company's or the speculators feel the slightest bit guilty that they contributed to the economic downturn? (i know there are other factors to the economy, but damn if this didn't play a key role).

My dad had an interesting theory on this...
Gas kept going up and up and up. At the cost of fuel was at its pinnacle it because economically feasable to explore alternative forms of fuel, electric, hydrogen, etc, etc. However, the gas plummetted and now the cost to develop the alternatives is greater than plain ol fuel.
Interesting way to look at it, and it makes sense to me.

It is very interesting, however, now we know what kind of monopolistic power that fuel has over our economy and as such I doubt we will stop exploring alternatives vigorously.racer12306 wrote:My dad had an interesting theory on this...

$1.99 in town now, down from $2.05 on Thursday.
I remember paying $.68 for 98 octane premium leaded for my '72 Olds w/455 Rocket. Cost me around $13 to fill the tank, unless it was nearly dry lol
Man, those were the days...

Sucks to be in NY doesn't it. I am not the slightest bit upset that we moved away from there 10 years ago.
