ok i have an 02 sxt and for some reason my idle acts up at strange times for example 1. i start the car and it went ti normal idle for a sec then it dropped to 4000 5000 rpms like it was going to cut off this happen for like 3 sec then it went to normal idle.
example 2. i was sitting in a parking lot this morning with the defrost on 1 and it was idle fine then when i turned the steering wheel it dropped to 4000 5000 rpms for about 5 sec then went to normal when i stopped turning the wheel.
example 3. when i roll up the front two windows at the same time it idles fine until the windows get near the top then it starts acting up and running rough the rpms dont drop that far but enough that you can feel the shaking in the car.
does anyone know why this is happening?

Do you mean 400-500rpm?evilneon02 wrote:ok i have an 02 sxt and for some reason my idle acts up at strange times for example 1. i start the car and it went ti normal idle for a sec then it dropped to 4000 5000 rpms like it was going to cut off this happen for like 3 sec then it went to normal idle.
It sounds like you are having an issue with electric draw. When the electrical load is raised (like when the windows are at the top of travel or the defroster is on) the alt kicks up to provide more power to the accessories. With that additional load placed on the system, either the computer is not getting enough power to control thing correctly, or the AIS motor isn't compensating for the extra load the alt is putting on the engine. The computer should tell the AIS to kick up the idle under additional engine loads at idle (i.e. power steering pump being worked, alternator going to full charge)
There was a post about this recently as well. You may want to remove your AIS motor and give it a good cleaning. You should clean the TB while you are there as well. Be sure to use non-chlorinated brakeclean on the TB if it's still stock.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Don't use TB cleaner on the plastic TB. It will remove the coating they put on there. (supposed to enhance airflow) Brakeclean, or carb cleanerwill work on the IAC since it isn't plastic. I just use castrol super clean or simple green type cleaners on the plastic part to be safe. Tho those would work on the IAC, I'm not sure what the Superclean would do if it wasn't completely rinsed out as it is corrosive to aluminum over a period of time. (Thinking of the IAC windings here, it is basically a glorified solenoid)
edit: Not sure on the gasket They used two styles, a formed o ring, and a paper gasket. I think '02 may still use the o ring which is usually reuseable. I know sometime after that they went to the gasket, but the groove for the o ring is still there.

Probably shouldn't listen to anything your penis says, that guy's a dick.
Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.Patience, of course, is a very powerful weapon, but sometimes I start to regret that it is not a firearm.
