so a while back my clock spring went bad (horn stopped airbag lights comes on) and im tired of seeing that little red light come on so i want to replace the clock spring.
i have the part number but cant seem to find it anywhere when i search. its for a 2000 neon w/o CC p/n 4793583.
now when i get ithis how do i go about installing it? i have some mechanical background and i really dont want to pay the dealer here....been screwed by them to many times. any help is appreciated

I think the only place you can buy it is from the dealer. I was calling local part stores around here and they have nothing. As for installation, I hear it is pretty easy, but my FSM is not near me at the moment and I won't have access to it till Sunday.

Everyone knows that for breasts to be "perfect" they need to be within reach.
The labor is pretty easy. This should help...
REMOVAL
Place the front road wheels in the straight ahead position then:
Rotate the steering wheel half turn (180 degrees) to the right (clockwise).
Lock column with ignition lock cylinder.
Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
Wait one minute for the reserve capacitor to discharge before removing non-deployed module.
Remove steering wheel. Refer to Steering, Column, Steering Wheel, Removal. *You will need a steering wheel puller.
Remove upper and lower steering column shrouds to gain access to clockspring wiring. Refer to Steering, Column, Upper Shroud Removal.
Remove multi-function switch. Refer to Electrical, Lamps/Lighting - Exterior, Multi-Function Switch, Removal.
Disconnect the 7-way connector between the clock spring and the instrument panel wiring harness at the base of the clock spring.
Remove clock spring by lifting the top latch tab up slightly to guide it over the lock housing (CLOCK SPRING LATCH HOOKS).

1 - CLOCK SPRING
2 - LATCH HOOKS
3 - STEERING COLUMN
The clock spring cannot be repaired, and must be replaced if faulty.
Rotate clock spring rotor a half turn (180 degrees) to the left (counter clockwise).
Lock the clock spring rotor in the center position as follows: Insert a paper clip wire through the hole in the rotor at the 10 O'clock position and bend to prevent it from falling out.

If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

The clockspring is MUCH easier to take off if your remove the two screws that hold the plastic part right inback of the steering wheel

yeah me... just ordered mine. Though it wasn't 71, it was 117 plus shipping and tax. Still cheaper than from the dealership with tax.
