Insurance, Tickets, new cars...

Post by heyitsstock » Fri Oct 24, 2008 11:50 pm

Ok i have a few questions/comments in this post...

first we will start with the cars....

I am looking to get a different car by spring time, i have a set budget of $20K.... these cars im interested in , however i would like a white car and sunroof...

MK5 GTI-originally was going to buy this new in dec.. but then i decided to go used which made me think, i could possibly buy something a little better..

SRT-4- afraid the car is going to be bet to hell

STi-expensive insurance

EVO-same as sti

G35 Coupe-found some for almost nothing... not to sure how i feel about them tho

can anyone think of any other cars that they would buy with a 20k budget...
----------
Insurance...
+100hp = +$100 more/month

i got quoted 2,200 a year for the gti
and 3,200 for the sti...

Does this seem like the right amount of money increase?... i dont know anything about insurance i have been my parents plan since i was 16...
----------
Tickets..

i wasnt aware that the money i had paid to drop the "points" was just dropping the points on my DL.. and not my insurance...

example i got a ticket in Fall 05 for speeding and it showed up on my insurance in Summer 06... pretty crappy... but what are you going to do

------
sorry this post is all over the place i just got in from work and im like half asleep...

well i would look at

Honda Civic
Chevrolet Cobalt
Toyota Corolla / Camry
Nissan Sentra
Hyundai Elantra
Ford Focus
Mazda 3

but they arent the rice cars youre interested in... so....

as for the insurance.. dont know about the differences in rates on those cars.. but they dont seem too unreasonable.. right now im $1700 on my Neon .. full coverage, 2 drivers (1 inexperienced), and more points than i really care to have right now... so... it would/should be $1100-1200 though without the 2nd driver. and $900 without the points.

also more than just your driving record affects the rate... where you live, type of car + your age, etc, all plays a part in the rate.

The rice cars?

A STI and Evo is rice but a Honda Civic and Cobalt isnt?

I swear...some people are confused these days.

the 2008/2009 civic looks like a respectable car.. youre thinking of the mexican/puerto rican civics... nothing wrong with the cobalt.. sedan or coupe..

I didn't bash them... I am just saying I don't see your logic...

Calling a STi or an Evo rice but a Civic or a Cobalt is the shit...

No offense to Opi (I know he won't take any as he doesnt want a fast ass race car) but the SS Cobalts are pretty weak IMO and upgrade wise pretty limited compared to other brands...

The Turbo Cobalt is suppose to be pretty nice so I've heard....

The new Civic is pretty nice interior wise... ok performance wise... but nothing special...

2001 Audi S4, stage3.............420hp, AWD, twin turbos, can be had for around 15-18000

E36 M3, 250hp, class, handles like a dream, can be had for around 15000 or less for a good copy.

E39 5 series 1998-2003, crazy aftermarket at cheap prices, talking like civic aftermarket....really cheap, from good companies, the 528 and 530 is crazy reliable, very fun to drive, not outdated, very classy, can be had for 13000 or less for good copies.

Raise your standards........get out of those small cars, they'll kill you.

Plus, remember, when these cars were new, they were upwards of $50,000, so they weren't purchased by people that beat them up. And they were very well maintained.
