im getting a p0440 code

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

I've got the same code. It doesn't affect your mileage. I've been driving around on that one for a while. I got it right after I did my exhaust and headers.

A little more help. There are some more threads on this...

I've had this one for a while. I replaced my gas cap and that wasn't it. I checked all hoses going to the purge solenoid and that wasn't it. I checked the purge solenoid itself and I tested it with an external 12 volt source, that wasn't it. Next in line is for me to install my new NVLD (Natural Vacuum Leak Detection) module to see if that's it.

If you want to diagnose this code, try checking the things above, in that order. Replacing the gas cap is nice and cheap, so start there.
