Anything that has to do with wheels and tires goes here. Will a wheel fit? Ask it here. Will a tire fit your wheel? Ask it here.

making 225/40/18s fit with stock struts (no spacer)

Post by dblsg » Tue Oct 28, 2008 12:32 pm

so i picked up a set of used 18'' motegis with 225/40/18 tires. i couldn't pass up on the deal so i took them and figured i would make it work somehow. the wheels are not in the best condition but i figured i little work and they will be great.

so i jacked up my car and tried to fit one of the wheels, and of course, the tire was rubbing on the strut perch

so i took a hammer and a brass drift, marked the area that was rubbing and went at it :)

Fixed it for ya

So it isn't rubbing the tension strut? Can't wait to see it on the ground :D
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Man the rim in the picture is bent badly, or is just a problem with the picture?

somone in town here had 18's on his car and he had to grind like 1/4 inch off the bar behind the wheels to get them not to rub on it. Im not sure what size tires he had though.

thanks Dante, i was in a rush to go to lunch

latief, yeah, the rim is bent. thats why i got them for so cheap. $240 for the whole set and that tire on that rim is brand new. the guy couldn't get it to seal right so he bought some new ones. i took a torch, a wood block, and a hammer to it and it straightened a bit (enough for it to seal).

50, i'm not sure what the offset is on these wheels, but there is no grinding or rubbing on the bars. the wheels came off a acura (i think it was a CL)

holy cow! is it safe to do that to your strut? beating it till it bends like that to clear the tire??? because i may have to do it to my neon cuz i got a set of 17" srt4 rims and i believe my tires will rub on my 02 neon acr also? any suggestions for me if i decide to do that to my neon and go that route too? thanx a million!
