the DOHC first generation engine in the neon and talon was the same engine as in some Mitsubishi eclipses even though I don't see how. The engine is called the 420A and it's a DOHC. Mitsubishi mounted the engine the opposite way in the engine bay compared to the way dodge and plymouth mounted their engines in the neon.
If you look at the power output it is not the same. Nor is the compression ratio. I'm sure some parts can be swapped over, but I'm not sure what. Maybe some internals.

The bottom end is swappable if it's a 420a, but the head is reversed. The trans is the same though, and is a direct swap.
ASP - First NGC SOHC in the 13s and the 12s. First SOHC neon over 500whp. First NGC Neon on MS.

He's got a point... Didn't the eclipse have a 5 speed though? I don't think they made a 6 speed...Swordfish2Cowboy wrote:Damn. They should have a 6 speed that's a direct bolt on.esteinmaier wrote:The bottom end is swappable if it's a 420a, but the head is reversed. The trans is the same though, and is a direct swap.

The 420a 95-99 eclipse/avenger/sebring have the same t-350 trans we have, except it was only available with 3.94 gears, and were hydraulic instead of cable. They always had the same 6 speed discussions that pop up on here, but never found anything worth while. It was said you could have one custom made from quaife, but it would cost in excess of $15k.
The neons 420a made slightly more power because the exhaust manifold was rear facing and the r/t ecu was tuned better. Aftermarket was much better for the neon as well.
The engine block and trans are about the only swappable parts. They shared the same platform with the galant, so not much was really swappable.

well the after market for both are really good i know i used to own an eclipse and it is pointles to swapt to the eclipse 420a because it was more refined when used in a neon and the eclipse's version is kinda junk without being built
