iPod 2 Car

Post by moparman00 » Thu Nov 06, 2008 9:32 pm

Ok, I bought a peripheral ipod adapter, to harwire my ipod into my factory H/U and control it through the radio.....I purchased it on ebay, for a decent price, but it came with a gm harness....so I also purchased a harness for the neon online, for about 10 bucks...this all together was still far cheeper than purchasing it new....I like bargains....

So I went to install it today, and it didnt work. My main reason for going this route, is because since my accident, my 4 disc changer hasn't been working....so I didn't mind losing the cd changer functionality that I currently didnt have....

I figured the issue with the cd changer was with the changer itself, no the headunit, but the peripheral unit isn't working....this makes me half think the headunit has an issue with the cd changer port, and half think that the peripheral unit I bought used, is toast.....

So my question is, how should I check to see which is working? the ipod kit has no light to indicate power, so thats out.....

when I press the cd/tape button the the H/U nothing happens, and when I plug the peripheral unit into the iPod, nothing happens on the iPod, no charging, etc....

could I use a multi-meter? if so, which pins on what would I check? what multi-meter settings, etc....

thanks!

A second thought.....I didnt really look, because I didn't have time, but in the instruction/installation manual that came with the ipod car kit thing, it said in some installations, a seperate 12 volt and ground source is required.........does anyone know if in a 2000 Plymouth Neon LX if the stock 4 disc changer has a seperate 12 volt source? or does it get it's power from the harness that connects it to the head unit? because the harness they sent me doesn't have any extra wires that would connect to 12 volt and ground......but the GM harness that came with the unit I bought used, had a yellow and a black wire, from 12v and ground......the manual says some installations require seperate 12v does anyone know if this is the case with our stock disc changers?

thanks

What ipod adapter did you get? Some of them require an aux source (which you have with the changer)

Some require oem radio to be sat radio ready (which you dont have)

I tried one of those on by Alpine CDA-9883 and my sis's CDA-9884 and they didn't work period. My suggestion is to get a deck with an iPod in. I prefer Alpines after playing with the other ones at work (Best Buy). The Alpine is the one that feels like a radio that could be factory and is fairly easy to use.

ya, I have the correct adapter, and the harness plugs into the headunit where the cd changer was.......the one thats on crutchfield......

my question now is just how to check if the h/u has issues..............

basically, what can i check with a multi meter or something on the head unit to see if its sending power, or anything to the aux(cd changer/ipod kit) port.........
