My audio progress thread **6x9's installed**

Post by srtgtr34 » Sat Nov 08, 2008 9:13 pm

I just recently started upgarding my stereo system.

My car at one time during its life had a sub and an amp in the trunk, since then the rear speakers weren't hooked back up whne they were removed the 3.5 speakers were blown and the fornt speakers crakle when the volume gets turned up.

I got the car with a jvc headunit and (unknown brand) front component speakers.

I have started buying equipment a couple of weeks ago and this is where I am at so far:

Pioneer DEH-P6000UB Stereo Reciever:
Image

MTX Audio TX6001:
Image

MTX TDX6903 (on the way)

Soon to come:
MTX Audio TDX3502
Power Acoustik OV4-1200

Bass will have to wait till naxt year.

Bump,

I have decided to put this project on hold due to work being slow and the possibility of getting cut. Once the winter is over I will buy everything else and get it all installed.

I still have to buy:
2x alpine typr r subs
1 alpine m1000 mono block amp
1 kicker 0gauge amp wire kit
1 power acoustik 1200watt amp for speakers
speaker wire
1 4 channel rca
1 2 channel rca
metra dash kit
metra wiring harness adapter
custom 12in sub encolure, fitted to the neon
3.5in dash speakers

I will post pictures when the 6x9's finally arrive, they took a week for paypal to clear the payment, thats why I don't have them yet.

Was it easy to navigate through the menus? I may have to take you up on the install kit once I get closer to when I will install everything.

I got quoted today 381 bucks to get all 6 speakers installed, headunit, amp, amp wiring kit and run all the wires. Shit for that much money I will take the risk and install everything my self.

The 6x9's also came today:

I might match the color on the speakers grilles for 6x9's and the 6.5's to the car.

Yea, I didn't mess with it too much, but seemed pretty simple. Its not too hard to wire everything up, I redid all my speakers in my car, with no problems. All you need is the right tools and take your time and you'll be fine.

personally i agree, the speakers themselves only have 2 wires and the amp install is easy too, the only thing thats a bit tough is the deck if its not something you do everyday.

Wiring the deck to the harness is alittle tough. But, usually the brand new decks, everything is marked.

I have 3 blue matrix 3led's on the way for the hvac panel. It should look nice to compliment the painted bezel.

Everything is going good so far. I have stopped buying audio equpment temporarily due to work but, when I know for sure that I'm staying, I'll kepp going and buy the rest of the stuff the finish the speaker part of my system. I have been doing some cheap mods like painting some things and I now have cluster and hvac led's on the way, can't wait to install them.

We'll see how it looks first.

Hvac panel is done and it is a perfect colormatch.

Ok so I got the news I have been wanting today and I am not getting laid off this winter so this project is back on. I will be buying the rest of the components to get the speaker part of this project done after the holidays.

I got the cluster trim painted and installed today and I got the replacement l.e.d. from superbrights for my cluster so I'll take some pics tomorrow.

I need to buy a new driver side A pillar since mine broke, so I might paint both of them. Anouther option I have been considering is getting the 3 gauge A-pillar pods and doing that, we'll see. I plan on using lacquer thinner and Q-tips to remove the green from the turn signals inside the cluster so I can install the red l.e.d.s and I will be ordering the red tinit for the odometer and a blue led for the defroster switch soon...

2 months later and the headunit is installed.

I didn't even plan on doing it today but when I opened up the hvac to do my defroster led I said why the hell not. So we took the goat out and got some T connections from autozone since the jvc was installed with them and it was pretty much plug and play.

I'll get some picture up tonight.

I lied about the pics but their is a video be upladed right now.

Heres the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nG3lj56knU

I might install the mtx 6.5 components tomorrow, If i get bored again.

One great feature of this headunit is that about 5 seconds after you shut the car off the headunit starts beaping and mororizes the faceplate down for you so you don't forget to take it off. I love it!
Crap I forgot to show this feature in the video.
I also like how it knows that I am listening to satelite radio, which is represented by the satelite in the video.

Places want 100 bucks to install headunits haha it took me all of 6 bucks (+tax) to put 8 wires together. Yes I only put 8 wires together because only my front speakers are still wired into the harness. My rear speakers are not hooked up because I need to figure out where the previous owner cut the lines for them, I may not even hook them up at all because I should be getting the amp for my speakers relatively soon.

6x9's are INSTALLED!!! & look awesome.

Here are some pics of them installed:

If you can make it out you can also see the trunk dome light with the 9 led bulb.

I didn't stop there...........

I decided to install those pretty little speaker grilles that I color matched.

So I took out the dremel and got to work, since their was a stock grille on the back speaker panel cover I knew just where to cut. I did one side the correct way and the other side wrong but it still looks awesome. If anyone should do this they should cut the carpet covering into triangle like I did to one of the holes below to make it look alot better. Well I'll stop talking and give you the pics:

And here we have the final pictures of everything installed:

nice look

i definitely need to cut out speaker holes in the rear dash because i just put my speakers under the board like stock and the sound quality blows.. muffled and everything..

good luck, this mod is very simple to do just make sure that you cut lines inot the speaker slots to make it look better.

They were before I tuned them with the h/u but after that they do just what the reviews say they do. I have read that these are the best 6x9's you can get and I believe it. Now all I need is the 3.5's and I'm also getting a infinity basslink II for a compact sub since I have all the connections in the trunk.

fuck

my speaker cutouts do not work at all

mainly i think because my rear deck has the child seat things......... but even with those not quite in the way (but probably are still in the way) the rear deck still sits like 1 1/2" above the speakers.. NO WAY to push it down to get the grills on..

now ive got a rear deck with some holes cut in it.. looks FUCKED!

though the speakers DO sound a little bit better regardless :p

i might try to just tape the grills onto the carpet to at least cover up the holes.. but i dont think it will stay on with tape
