3rd brake light LED

Post by danman132x » Mon Nov 10, 2008 4:20 am

I just got myself a new set of tail lights and a clear third brake light. Does anyone know what LED I need to get for the 3rd brake light, that lights up red? Thanks

I've been looking on http://www.oznium.com , but I need to know what part I'm looking for.

See if Nitehawk has any of his LED 3rd brake lights left.

any red 921 led will work. You could actually get a 194 size too as the sockets are the same but it would be smaller/less light.

you could go really different and mount an alarm scanner inside with red LED's... here's mine, don't know if it's legal in every state, but I've never been tagged or even pulled over for it, day or nite..even when cops were stopped behind me...

..of course, mine is mounted in a stock red lens...would be harder to hide the mounting of it in a clear lens

Very illegal. It's flashing red lights.

You can take the stock bulb and paint it red...

not in ohio. they only care about the front of vehicles, so no flashing red or blue lights allowed in the front.

I'm debating whether to get these
http://autolumination.com/906.htm (seem like the best, also most $) scroll down to see, tower or 2nd one down

or these
http://superbrightleds.com/specs/T13_specs.htm
They are much cheaper, but I do not know if they'll fit the hole where the light goes through.

EDIT:
I bought the ones from autolumination, 2nd ones down

Odd. How do you get the rear fogs to turn on? And are they covered by a red lens like the rest of the tail?

I've actually changed the taillamps altogether now, but...

The area under the reverse lens is reflector. But if you look through the reflector on the right angle, with the right amount of light, you'll see there is a closed chamber in that area. So I cut a hole through the back of the lamp, like the hole used to mount the reverse light socket. I bought a spare pair of sockets, and put a bulb in that area. I then ran a line with relay off of the foglight feed at the fusebox. So when the fog lights are on, so are the rear ones.

With my new lamps, I plan to put a red bulb in one reverse light. Both reverse lights will come on when I backup, but I'll use diodes to allow the single lamp with the red bulb to come on with the fog lights again. Look at European exotic cars in magazines, and you'll see one reverse light is red sometimes.
