Driver side axle fell apart on removal...

Post by danman132x » Sat Nov 15, 2008 3:10 am

When I poped the knuckle assembly (wayyy to hard) of the bottom bolt holding thing (not the steering control arm, but the other one), the axles flex out and fell apart in two, at the transmission end. It is filled with some green grease, but what I need to know if its okay to just put the balls back into the sockets, put the boot over, and clamp it back down. I dont want it falling apart on my halfway down the road.

That clamp is a pain in the rear to tighten. We put it aside for now, but when re-installing, we'll need to put it back on right..

Damn, I hate it when my balls slide off!

Oh, axles, yeah. As long as there isn't any dirt in there, it should be good. Do these have needle bearings in them? If so be sure they're all in place or that could cause issues.

yeah, i had that same problem when i lower my transmission, it's fine, just make sure there's still plenty of green grease and no dirt in there. once you bolt back the knuckle to the strut, it will push it in and stop it from falling out. I did that and have been driving it for a while. :) No problem so far
