I voted for the FI option, but as lilnicko11 said, only if it is an option money/relationship wise. I think your marriage is a higher priority.
The second choice would be to stick it out till it is in need of rebuild. If it is running fine then why mess with it. The benefit of the miles is a well seasoned block: many heat cycles makes for a stress relieved block, that if properly rebuilt, will last longer than it did the first time. But it only counts, as long as a rod isn't hanging out the side.

Probably shouldn't listen to anything your penis says, that guy's a dick.

That might be hard to convince the wife though. I doubt his wife would just agree to having another neon when they already have one. Believe me, I've been trying to convince the gf forever that it's a better option - but she just stares at me.Adionik wrote:Buy an SRT-4 and keep your car as a daily if you don't already have one
I would say stay with your current neon as it still runs fine. But when the time comes that you need a rebuild, swap for an SRT-4 if you can find one.

Some people cannot afford the down time. I work 6 days a week so I really have no choice. Plus the headache of a swap...gaahh.
Why do you need to convince the girlfriend? Who cares!? You're my age...do what you want
Although I will note that my GF is eyeing my yellow neon now that I have 2

Be happy with what you have.
It's running fine *knocks on wood* so do some maintenance right now. It hit 180K. When did you replace the timing belt and water pump? The recommended service intervals are around 100K correct? Go ahead and do some upkeep, and it may or may not let you down *knocks on wood again* but if it does let go on you, you will be able to convince your wife anything you want since you will have NO transportation.
In fact, you may not even have to tell her! Think about it: if your engine or transmission comes apart, do the srt swap. what's she going to do?! you had a busted car and you did the swap to get it running again! problem solved!

eh.... errr.... i wouldn't. You risk your marriage at that point...flhmfd wrote:lower it...get an srt4 or r/t front bumper...r/t sides...
Women like it when their husbands do things that are practical. If you use BOTH husband and wife joint account money and spend it on something the husband likes or wants to "play with" it won't end well.
...tread with caution...

Update. i was able to convince her on a few upgrades, which will be cheaper. here is the list
MSD ign cables
Exhaust manifold ( and put the CA manifold in storage until i need it to pass smog )
RT Muffler
The wife will not let me get Projectors with HID's because she says its not really necessary. But anything to keepthe engine in tip top shape is a go.

Two words come to mind with your comment "Single" AND "Divorced". Don't be a Jackass his marriage is way more important than the car. Been there got the Divorce T-Shirt to prove it.slow2.0ts13 wrote: One word comes to mind starts with whip ends in ped.
I would do the exhaust mod and maybe an CAI. Do what you can afford.

I would reconsider the exhaust manifold/header option since you live in CA. I thought mine was a pain to get on and off. I'm not sure if you'll have the same problems, but I had to cut the flange on my "downpipe" or whatever that thing is called and weld the header to it. If you have to do the same thing (don't get a pacesetter for this reason) you won't be able to switch back and it'll be a hassle to have to keep switching for one day out of the year so you can go and get inspected.

Is there a CARB exempt header?
Maybe an R/T header since it is an OEM part?

Be sure to let us know when you get the Header and its associated piping. I'm curious to know if you notice any difference in performance.alsey_seven wrote:well i already ordered exhaust header and down pipe. last month i did my smog test and next one is in 2 years. So going to put in storage my OEM exhaust. until need to pass smog.
This is why CA sucks ass about strict dick smog test.
