* Sigh * < sorry, Dante had to borrow that.

From a related thread a few down the list.
I'm a gonna get me a 2.4, so I can forget how to use the search button.....
Is there a sale on these that I've missed?
There seems to be a lot of "howdoIgetthistoworkinmyneon" ?'s lately.

Probably shouldn't listen to anything your penis says, that guy's a dick.
Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.Patience, of course, is a very powerful weapon, but sometimes I start to regret that it is not a firearm.

There is a lot of similarities to the SRT swap when doing an N/A 2.4 swap. It would be best to read here and on the org about this. A lot of people have done swaps, granted most of them are SRT swaps, but I'm sure a lot of the questions you have were answered.

i have a non-SRT 2.4 swapped 2000. there certainly aren't as many resources for this swap, compared to the SRT, but there are some similarities between the two. i learned a lot of engine specific info from the 1st gen guys. a number of them have done 2.4 swaps.
with 2nd gens, i know of 1 other guy (besides myself) that has done a non-SRT 2.4 swap. he ran his as pretty much a stock application and i have turbo, upgraded internals, MS, etc. i'd like to think that there are some other 2nd gen guys out there that have done this swap, but i haven't encountered them yet.
to start, i would hit the .org and read up on 2.4 swaps. that is the best place to start. research is key.

Wiring should be easy to figure out if you know what to look for, run the cam sensor off of the exhaust cam. Use a 1gn DOHC intake mani, with the 90 cut off, and use your stock TB. The computer we have will run it, but it wont run as well as it could with a MS, or a 1gn dohc mopar computer adapted to run the 2gn motor. A 2000 would be easier to get to run off a 1gn computer, you'd just have to hack up both computers to get it to run.

So many neons so little time.
A 1st Gen with a 2.4L can still run with a SOHC computer just fine you will have to tune it with either an SAFC and/or a fuel pressure regulator. Down side is you will not be able to rev higher with the SOHC vs. DOHC ecu. Depending on your application revving might not be what you want to do anyway.
As far as 2nd Gen cars the SOHC ecu should be ideal since the powerbands are very similar (IE lower revving) but the fuel needs are not so you would have to adjust the fuel ratio somehow.
I am in the early stages of figuring out if I want to do another 2.4L engine swap or not. Probably not going to turbocharge this one though since that adds more money and variables to deal with in the grand scheme of things. It doesn't appear that it will be that difficult as compared to what had to be done to get it to work in my first project car. If I do commit to this project I am planning on shooting for the 200whp mark and calling it good.
You can check out my entire journal of my old 2.4L project here: http://www.gtneon.com/gtneon/oldproject ... bpage.html
There is alot of information on my webpage about the project. You just have to dig through all of the updates to get the big picture.

realistically the easiest way to get a 2.4 running in a 00-02 neon.
srt-4 side motor mount bracket, keep your current transmission, upgrade to a stronger clutch - pt clutch at least, 2.0 dohc intake manifold, dohc exhaust manifold of some sort - preferably longtube header.
get 24 lbs injectors. your car already has a 58 psi regulator.
get a s-afc or MS to tune the car, probably not required b/c the fuel maps in the 00-02 PCM are made for a 58 psi regulator with 19 lb injectors.
so the 24's should be okay with mild mods.
you might have to step up to 26 or 30 lb'ers if you do massive bolt-ons (ie, cams!)
get the pt cruiser ps, alternator, and a/c brackets.
use your current engine wiring harness.
change the cam positioning sensor over to a dohc setup (if they are different, maybe change length)
swap outer wires on the coilpack.
move the injector wiring over 1, etc....
extend the coolant temp sensor plug.
maybe mess with the TPS and IAC wiring length.
that's should be about it, shouldn't be much different than doing it in a 1st gen.
my guess is that it's easier b/c the engine bay actually houses a 2.4 from the factory.

Did you have to get a different hood or did the motor fit under it without rubbing the timming cover on the hood?hul kogan wrote:i have a non-SRT 2.4 swapped 2000. there certainly aren't as many resources for this swap, compared to the SRT, but there are some similarities between the two. i learned a lot of engine specific info from the 1st gen guys. a number of them have done 2.4 swaps.

IMO i don't think it would fit under a stock hood without cutting out some of the bracing. even then it is so close you are better off with an aftermarket hood.
that said...i have an aftermarket hood, which offers more space. with my log manifold and TB setup, there was no way in hell i would be able to use a stock hood...let alone engine clearance issues.
