This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

My car is now has a water...fuel fountain under the hood

Post by m2736185 » Thu Nov 27, 2008 5:27 pm

Well I finally got the head and timing belt and intake manifold in, but before I added coolant or connected any of the belts I wanted to fire her up to make sure she ran... I put the key in I hear the fuel pump stay on for a while then i turn the crank and the car dies. I later discovered fuel sprayed all over the engine I just cleaned. I wanted to make sure it was coming from the injectors so i turn the key to the on position and ran to the hood only to see fuel gushing out of one of the injectors. Yes i made sure the injectors were all fitted in nice and tight...what else could it be?

missing any o rings on them?
Checked the injector for any holes or cracks in it? It could happen...

Definitely sounds like the O-rings not seated properly or just missing all together.

sounds like the injector may be stuck open, or cracked. Does it pulse out, or just keep spraying?

It would have to be an upper o-ring, if it is an o-ring. The lower one would have a tough time spraying fuel, as the pintle end sprays into the IM, and would fill the port, if the valve was closed, then run down into the plenum. The TB would need to have a damn good seal to force it back out the lower injector o-ring.
Either the upper o-ring is missing/torn or the injector body is cracked. A little motor oil is needed to reinstall the injectors into the bores. On the IM side always make sure no grit has gotten into the bore or you may develop a vacuum leak.

Well I guess I can rip the fuel bar and injectors out for the 10th time to double check everything. I didnt use oil to put them in maybe thats the trick.

gilly02le: I didnt have enough time to check since the car powers down after 5 seconds...maybe its some kind of safety? But i believe it kept spraying

haha ur right i was wondering where the hell that blue o ring came from...then i started removing the injectors and realized one was missing. Well now that that problem is fixed here comes the other one.

I hooked the car up to my 00 Neon it was crankin, but sounded like the bettary was dying. I then decided to hook it up to an altima to make sure it was getting enough power...but nothing still kept crankin and sounding as if the battary was dead. I did not attach the manifold to the cat yet and I could see a little "smoke" coming out as it cranked. It is still throwing one code p0517 high battary temp i believe?

Yeah trying to run it from another car's battery never works too well. In theory it should, but cars don't like it too well. I guess it's like banging your wife with another man's dick to them!

Hey does this bracket happen to know what this bracket is for? I thought it was for the intake manifold...but its not...unless it is, but it wasnt lining up for some reason and the intake manifold...well i already bolted that into the block

It's a brace for the exhaust manifold.

lol more like my neon flustered me. FInally got her all back together. Has a little bit of a rough idle im going to try seafoam and an oil change see if that works.

Other than that only other problem I see is smoke coming out near the exhaust manifold....smells like something is burning...I hope its just the gasket sealant or the new gasket burning in and not a leak.
