Speedometer and sub problems..

Post by love_my_03_neon » Sat Nov 29, 2008 9:34 pm

I had to install a new battery last week, and ever since the battery started having problems my speedometer hasn't been working (but my horn does and all my fuses look fine), and my sub woofer haven't been working. Is it a short or what? Anyone have a clue? Thanks.

Check your grounds, and make both terminals are tight.

Its because ur sub is wired to the speedo so wen u go faster it gets louder. Maybe a new flux capacitor is needed for ur application.... lol jk bullshit post

Perhaps muffler bearings?

Um, are there any fuses underhood that could cause that issue? Have you checked your wiring to make sure when changing the battery that you didn't pinch one?

Also, what kind of speedo and sub issues? Just not working? Randomly working? Speedo saying you're doing 110 on the hwy?

As for the speedo, it's resting under the 0 mark, all the way past 120 and sitting under the 0 pretty much. It worked once we hooked up the old battery the other night to get my car jumped and get it home but since then it hasn't worked. My sub hasn't worked at all, since we changed batteries, could it be because of the amps the sub is pulling? I'm not sure if we pinched one or not but I will check on that.

just a shot in the dark here. but could it be maybe that you got a faulty battery of even the wrong one ?

DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING! if your speedometer is not working, neither is your ODOMETER!

no depreciation FTW! you go to sell your car in 8-12 years from now and you still have... what... 75,000 miles on it

it's not very ethical, but you could totally do it.

that wouldnt work. in the case that he wouldnt be able to take his car to a shop for anything because shops have to report mileage to a organization. and i know this because i once did a car fax on my car and there it was mileage and all from what my car had at that moment.

None of my fuses are blown so I know that can't be it. The battery should be fine but it does have a warranty on it so if it is the case then I can trade it in, but everything else is working other than the speedo and my sub. And I can never sell my car. I love it far too much and it has a lot of special meaning to me...even when it isn't working right...lol

i can't see where the 2 items would be related. i would start with the obvious and trace all lines associated with each item for problems.

Is the needle still stuck on the wrong side of the post? If so that is why the speedo isn't working. You could try a cluster check. (Hold the odometer reset in then key on and release it after a second. The gauges should go to various positions. If that doesn't work you may need to remove the cluster, and tilt it upside down, or whatever works to get the needl to go back around. There are instructions on how to remove the cluster in the how to section.
