thinking of going 03+ front end

Post by jT » Mon Dec 01, 2008 4:51 am

since i know a guy that can paint and i need a paint job anyways (eventually) i was thinking of changing out my front end ... would not happen for a while though

currently all stock 00 plymouth .. had thought of first just changing out to a 02 dodge front bumper (solely for the bumper pieces around the blinkers) and adding a mesh kit.. but now after adding up the prices its basically the same cost to do an 00-02 style and an 03-05 style (on ebay anyways)

02 bumper 115
00 fog lights 115
00 projector headlights 130
00 grill mesh kit 34
headlight hid kit 60
maybe fog light hid kid 60

total cost $514 with the 2nd hid kit, $454 without

05 bumper 110
05 projector fogs 90
05 projector headlights 168
05 grill mesh 30
headlight hid kit 60
fog light hid kit 60

total cost $518

in the end, well, it would basically look like an 03-05 .. nothing really custom or spectacular or anything... but i like the look of the 03 bumper and round fogs.. actually id even take an 00 bumper if it had round fogs (and not a $$$ body kit) since i think i prefer the 00 headlights over than 03 .. but nothing i can do about that.. its one or the other..

thoughts on my idea?

no photochop necessary in this case since theres nothing unique.. heh.. if wondering the grill mesh i would go with is like this

The 03+ bumpers dont really look that great unless you have the mopar lip. But with the lip and yellow fogs looks pretty good!

On the other hand a 02 bumper isn't very expensive on ebay and you could home depot lip it and it would look really good with or w/o the lip. If cost is an issue the racoon headlights look pretty good and aren't very expensive.

It depends on what you like I personally like the 01-02 R/t or ACR bumper, but they are hard to find but 02's are everywhere..

I absolutely love the 02 bumpers with the Civic lip kit on it IMO.

I'm not too much of a fan of the 03-05 bumpers though.

man to spend that much money just to end up with a regular looking neon but the 03 look well in my opinion it isnt worth it.

why spend over $500 when u can just easily get a complete bodykit and give it a whole new makeover. you said u was going to get a paint job done ( eventually ) so it would be a perfect idea and a body kit would cost you like at least $200 cheaper shipped and all.

The only thing that's for the "body" part is the bumper for $115.00 The rest is upgraded lighting which will have far more function than a body kit.

almost anything (except any aftermarket kit) will look better than the 2000 model year bumpers.

I say '03 front/rear with Mopar Lip and call it a day

i actually like the 00-02 front bumper styles better than the 03+ unless u got an srt4 obviously. i do know that those grill insert pics that u got are made from a company that is fairly decent but those can be a pain to put in

Yes, with the correct headlamps.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

You use the compressor to take off 22 bolts/screws? Thats weak/or lazy  ...

I can have my front bumper pulled off in 15-20 minutes with basic handtools.

If you want to go with that mesh grill kit for the 03+, don't bother wasting your money on the precut stuff. Go out and buy gutter guard, or buy a sheet of mesh steel, and cut it yourself.

The precut stuff needs a ton of adjustment, the $40 to $50 price tag isn't worth it, considering that you have to cut and shape that stuff anyways, might as well start from scratch.

Word of advice though, if your going to do the mesh grill, remove the black plastic honey comb grille and use that to shape the mesh. The chrome inserts on the 03+ will not fit correctly if you lay the stuff on top of the plastic grill. Trust me, this is from personal experience.

Black out everything, or color match, it will look so much better. Chrome/Aluminum doesn't belong on a Neon anyways...
