2.0L SOHC all-motor build (a second try)

Post by 03blackrt » Tue Dec 02, 2008 7:36 pm

I figure it’s about time to restart my all-motor project. I have a few more projects going on, but I want to get this done by spring time (april/may).

Current parts list…

- Chrysler 2.0L Block (4667642AC) *disassembled*

- Mopar Lower Gasket Kit (4798967AF) *have*

- Mopar Main Bearing (4856733AB) x4 *have*
- Mopar Thrust Bearing (4856734AB) *have*

- Mopar Water Pump (4667660AB) *have*

- Mopar Oil Pump (4667884AC) *have*

- Mopar Oil Dipstick Tube (4667352) *have*

- Mopar Crankshaft Sprocket (4667604) *have*

- JE Forged Aluminum Pistons, Wrist Pins, 0.040" Overbore (223604) *have*
- Total Seal Piston Rings, 0.040" Overbore (X9574) *ordered 11/17/08*
- Eagle Forged Steel Connecting Rods (CRS5472N3D) *have*
- Mopar Rod Bearing (4728997AB) x4 *have*

- OBX 6.25 Quart Oil Pan (OP10603) *have*

Once I get the piston rings I’ll send the block out to be bored and hot tanked. After assembling the bottom end I'll get work on the top end.

What compression are you going to run? Are you going to try decking the head again?

Good luck with the build. What are your end goals?

EDIT: Apparently they are 10.5:1 SOHC pistons. I'll be running a thinner head gasket to get 11:1.

I got my Total Seal rings today. I orderd a gapless 2nd ring set (part number X9574) but got a convetional ring set (part number CR9574). Took them three weeks to get me the wrong rings. :tardbang: I'll be sending them back. :banghead:

Block color choice…

1) Street Hemi Orange (4349216AB)

2) Turquoise (4120752AB)
Image

Used on all B/RB big block engines during 1962-71 with the exception of the 1969-71 high-performance 383/440 engines. Those engines were painted Street Hemi orange.
3) Blue (4349217AB)
Image

Used on all production engines from 1972-83 (except 2.2L), and on most 318 engines from the late 1960s through 1972.
4) Red (4349218AB)
Image

Used on all 273 and 360 engines from 1964-69, 340 engines from 1968-69, and most mid-1960s 318 engines.
5) Black (4120753AB)

Which color?

I think it would depend on the color scheme you are going with under the hood. What kind of look are you after?
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

I don't know what kind of look I'm going after. Just something nice and clean; something that says "Mopar". The block and oil pan will be painted this color.

I've always been partial to the Hemi Orange. I had a Deep Amethyst Omni that I had planed to plop a HO engine into. But I went with black in the end. The HO works with some colors better than others.

That's awesome man. I can't wait to see how your build goes, I just bought that 12.5:1 motor with the crane 005. We'll see how my build goes.

Again, you and me. You should come to carlisle!! Good luck bro!!
