clutch interlock switch

Post by Graphite SRT » Wed Dec 03, 2008 9:23 am

is their any information anywhere that says that the clutch interlock switch ( lower switch ) does anything other then just allow you to start the car. I know it feeds the pcm then the pcm controls the starter relay but i need to know if it controls revs while shifting or anything like that.

I know that the clutch up switch(the one at the top of the pedal) controls cruise control so i figured that would also control any kind of hold revs during shit leaving the intelock ( lower) switch just for starting.

the reason in am asking is i installed a remote start and need to bypass it. I could use a relay that is only actived by the remote start to bypass it but if all it does is control the starter activation id rather just bypass it all together so i can start the car without the clutch

i'm pretty sure the lower switch is just there to ground the ignition, and let you start the car. Doesn't effect the car while shifting, just won't let you start your car with the clutch out, because it may still be in gear. You should be able to bypass it, just be very careful not to leave your car in gear.

:withstupid: The interlock switch is just for starting the car.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

thanks for the quick replies. Saves me from having to use another relay. I read another thread on srtforums where someone said that it messed with the revs when shifting after he jumped the wires but then i realized he just unpluged the 3 pin connector and jumped the two for the lower switch and leaving the upper disconnected. The upper switch is at ground untill you push the clutch in so his was always ungrounded.

I don't think there is anything other than the 6750 ish cut off that controls RPM's on the MTX cars. I haven't had any problem with free revs with the clutch in, car moving or not. Maybe NGC cars do?
I think there is something more with the clutch out, IIRC my MTX Sundance would kick out the cruise if you moved the shifter out of gear w/out touching the clutch. The RPM's would rise breifly then go to idle. Not sure how they achieve that. I know the 1970's cruise control would rev the engine to redline, trying to maintain speed, if you kicked it out of gear. That was an ATX, I don't think you could get CC on MTX cars back then.

As well as starting the car it disengages cruise when you press the clutch in too.

i made a quick adapter harness to bypass the clutch switch without cutting any wires. Its in my project log.

I did some more searching and im almost positive the lower clutch switch is just for starting. The upper switch is the one used for cruise and other stuff, otherwise you could murder your clutch if you pushed it half way down while in cruise.
