Post by v95 » Sun Dec 07, 2008 10:04 am

hey,
anyone ever here of the beltronics vector 975 radar laser detector.

I was looking into them online his morning and a couple of people at work mentioned it. honestly it sounds cool and has under the hood mounts and rear and front window attachments and a whole bunch of other goodies but before i purchase one I just want to know if anyone has one and there opinions

I've got a beltronics and it has worked fine for me. (in fact, it's paid for itself several times!) I forget which model mine was, but it was in 2005... It uses a 12 volt power source, so it's not as fancy as that one, but from what i remember when i did research before buying one, the ones that were mounted in the bumpers and gave you in car readouts and such were very expensive. I would recommend a box that you just plug into the cigarette lighter, but if you want bells and whistles too, that's your prerogative.

of course i would never imagine using a radar detector in virginia because they are completely illegal...

I have an Escort solo II, the cordless one.

It's awesome and will pick up a signal like 5 miles away here in Indiana. I've seriously had mine go off and about 3-5 min later the cop and I passed.

Plus if you happen to get pulled over you can just grab it out of your window and put it in the center consol, no cords and you can put it in whichever vehicle you need it.

It's sounds crazy but it will pick up K band from about 3-5 miles away. I picked up a cop sitting with his radar on and it picked him up about 5 minutes away and the signal got stronger as I got closer so it was him for sure. I was going about 60 mph so 5 min is about 5 miles. I was impressed.

I got mine for like $317ish about 4 years ago. Well worth if if you have two cars or seem to be in different cars a lot.

Best buy has them for $340 as of now...maybe some upgrades

the average popular band radars only emit Doppler about 2.5 miles on flat unobstructed road...(true the signal could travel farther with out reflecting back to the antennae but still) at least that's the range I got out of mine and it was only about a year old when it was installed in my police car. radar detectors are fine as long as the cop is clocking someone else. If their trying to clock you, their going to have the radar on hold until he can estimate your speed, then in about oh 2 seconds, hes going to take it off of hold, approximate your speed, verify it by looking at the speed in the counting box (radar control box) and lock you in, and put it back on hold... then just wait for you to pass. all your radar detector is going to do is beep for a few seconds, usually 1-2 seconds after I activate the radar.

if you can drop down to a reasonable speed in 2 seconds then Kudo's for you. but driving at a speed not in excess of the posted speed limits are the best way not to get pulled over. If you had a radar detector in your car, and i stopped you for speeding, you got a ticket no questions asked.

Im just saying to be safe, radar detectors offer people a false sense of security of not being caught for speeding, when we all know if you dont want a speeding ticket, dont speed!

ps. the radar detectors are made by the same people who make the radars!

peace

First thing I quoted is definitely true. That's why whenever I get pulled over now I rip the sucker down, even if I wasn't speeding just so they don't get suspicious.

Also I've found that if you have a running partner or are running in a group it's usually harder to be singled out, just don't be the lead car though.

Fortunately the cops around me keep the radars on at all times, or at night they turn them on as soon as they see headlights.
