CCW, CHL, CPL do you have one?

Just trying to get an idea on the # of 2gners who have there CCW, CHL, CPL (or what ever your state calls it). If you do have one what do you carry?

Will be getting my CHL the second I turn 20 1/2. Well, apply for the application atleast.

I considered fabbing up a shotgun rack for the neon but the SRT spoiler is already cumbersome as it is. I own several rifles, go to the range almost every weekend. I will probably care a .380 or 9mm.

Personaly I would go with something larger than a .380 or 9mm. Personaly i carry .40 S&W in my G22.

the shotgun is a good idea but check your lacal and state laws on having/carring a long gun (shotguns are conciderd a long gun same as a rifle) in your car. Im Wv I can have/carry a long gun in my car as long it is not loaded.

What brand gun do you plan on getting as your main carry piece?

I'm in Texas, as far as I know it is legal to carry it in a rack. My friend is a police officer and he said keep it in the trunk unloaded. Not very helpful in a tight situation, is it?

You don't think the .380 is big enough? I thought the bullets were enough to put a grown man down. Might need one, two for sure.

My biggest concern is actually keeping it concealed. On average, it's like 80+ with a ton of humidity here. So that translates to me in a t-shirt and shorts...or jeans. Hardly room to carry a side arm and i'm sure as hell not wearing a jacket. I considered a leg piece, but I don't know how practical that is.

Braaaaaand. I'm thinking Glock. It is my understanding that they don't have safetys, right? At first it was my concern to not shoot myself while carrying, but I can see how important it be able to draw and use it now. Plus the fact they shoot underwater, sand, frozen, etc is a big plus. I've heard XD pistons are awesome, never fired or held one myself.

With a handgun i'm a pretty crappy shot, but I hope to get enough practice in as time goes by. It's deffinetely not like the movies where they're shooting lights out 500 yards away and shit.

GLOCKS are great, They do have safetys just not an exturnal safety. a glock WILL NOT fire unless you pull the trigger. If you want to know more about Glocks go here www.glocktalk.com there is more info about them than i could ever remember.

There is no one calaber for a handgun that will ALWAYS drop some one with one shot. With a quality ammo anything 9mm or larger will have the best chance at stopping someone if you ever have to use your gun in a SHTF situation.

As far as conceling on hot days in texas. there are plenty of holsters out there that will work carry a full size G22 with a M.T.A.C iwb (inside the wastband) holster with a pair of shorts and a tshirt. there is also the smartcarry holster that one is good for skiny guys. www.comptac.com
and www.smartcarry.com are there websites if i remember correctly. I would suggest a Glock 26 for you, it is a subcompact 9mm that carries 10 rounds and will also take the full size Glock 17 18round mags, carry the full size mag as a backup in a cargo pocket.

but good luck in what ever you choose, just remember to try what ever gun you want out at the range with atleast 300 rounds before you buy one.

You never go to an ATM, a bank, never drive through a bad part of town? I never PUT myself in a situation where i would need a gun ither, but that dose not mean that i will never be in a situation where one is needed ither.

I dont carry because I am lookin for trouble, to prove im a man, or because i am John Wayne. I carry in preperation for the day (I hope never comes) where I will need to defend my life or others from harm. I choose not to be a victom. I do not walk around thinking I have a gun dont fuck with me, I carry because i have seen the dark side of people and I want to take all the precautions i can to protect my self, my family, my friends, and even compleet strangers from those people in society who choose not to fallow the laws. I respect your views and ask only that you respect mine. you have met me at carlisle last year. Did i come across as a gun toating gun happy nut?

Unfortunatly not all gun owners act in a professional manner reguarding there firearms. and what makes it worse is the fact that people juge the actions of the few and confuse that with the many. You will find the most CCW carriers act and train in the most professional manner. its the idiots that carry to be cool and go around showing everyone that they have a gun that ruin it for the honest folks.

I'm Canadian. My concealed weapon is a hockey stick. Sometimes it's a shovel, hard to shovel a driveway with a hockey stick.

I don't have my ccw yet. But I'm thinking about getting it. I shoot a .45 Witness P Carry (poly frame, stainless slide, imported by EAA). My brother shoots an XD45. I love the XD's. I'd like to get an XDm in .40 this coming spring. When I get my ccw, if I can afford it I'll get a P229 in .40 as my carry gun. My .45 is too big to conceal anytime except winter. And in winter I could conceal a Mossberg 500 Rolling Thunder AND an AR15.

I like the Witness-frame guns, but not the polymer. They for some reason made the grips larger around, more like a 1911. If you get a p229 in .40, make sure to get a .357Sig barrel and a bigger spring. Why use a .40 Short and Wimpy when you can have what the USSS uses?

I've never really felt like the .357SIG round was any better than .40S&W. I know when the .357 round very first came out like 12 years ago or whatever, everyone was drooling, but it hasn't really proved to be much superior. Just faster...and more aggresive to shoot (more recoil and noise). Plus .40 is way more widely available with more options for bullet weight and load. I would never get a 9mm though...WEAK.

I agree on the .40 over the 357. when it all comes down to it the rounds are to simmilar to justify the higher cost of the 357 over the .40.

Although the 9mm is a smaller round I would not count it out as a good deffensive round. It is great for shooters who ither cannot handle/do not like the heavy snap that the .40 S&W is famous for. In modern deffensive ammo the diffrence in 9mm, .40S&W, 45 G.A.P., and 45 ACP is so marginal its not funny. Shot placemant is more a determining factor in stopping someone than calaber.

I chose the .40 mainly due to regulations where i work, and the fact that i got a great deal on my 2nd gen Glock 22

Completely agree on shot placement, and the fact that modern ammo has leveled the playing field quite a bit. My main beef with the 9mm is the lack of stopping power for shooting stuff other than people. Like engine blocks. But the 9mm is an easy round to shoot quickly and have good accuracy on your second and third shots, which counts for something.

i watched a cop shoot a racoon that was believed to have rabies with a glock 9mm and he put 7 rounds it in and it wasnt dead!. until he went an hit it in the head with a round pointed shovel!!....

Because I live in MD I'll never be able to get my CCW. In MD you have to have a "very good reason" to have a CCW (death threats, doing work where you drop large amounts of cash, etc). It's nearly impossible for a regular citizen to get one. If I did carry though, I would probably carry a .45, or a .357. I do have a nice Colt combat commander (smaller 1911) that I've never fired lol.

Never fired, thats like having a drag car and never going to the strip, There are ranges near you that you can go shoot at. In Md you can transport your weapon to and from the range you just have to have it unloaded and locked up in the trunk with the ammo in a diffrent location.
