Last time I experience a loss of power steering like that I was in process of setting the family minivan on fire.

Broken line cooling the exhaust mani?

That does create some interesting visuals tho!

Return line blew off and dumped all over the cat.

There was a mass of smoke then flame. I was a block from home, drove like a mofo to the driveway and grabbed the fire extinguiser, several people notifying me I was on fire. I smiled and said thanks

That was a job (farce) from hell, 4 frigging PS pumps and two mechanics before it was fixed.

It's hard to steer because you were revving the rpms up. There is a proportioning valve that reduces the power assist as the rpms get higher. Try turning you wheel at idle, then rev it to 5k and try to turn the wheel. You will see the difference.

The pump can be modified to fix it, but it's not really safe.

Hehe. I remember when i got my neon. I bought it to have some fun with but the things I used to consider fun cost me a lot of money. pegleg burnouts cost me a trans and rat-racing cost me 2 rims, LCA bushings and an alignment. A heavy rirght foot cost me a speeding ticket. loud music cost me 2 door speakers and is about to cost me a pair of 6x9s and one stolen head unit that i had to replace. At least I was dumb enough to leave the door unlocked or they'd have broken my window to get my Alpine.....a-holes.
Gimme some chopsticks, I wanna eat rice!
