CD Changer ?

Post by Dimas » Mon Dec 22, 2008 6:12 pm

Now I'm looking for a new in dash deck for my 03 R/T, at the moment I'm overseas and I don't have as much time as I would like to research this but I wonder if anyone can help me out.

All I want to know is, what is the max peak power of the stock in dash deck and is there ANY aftermarket in dash decks out there that will be compatible w/ the factory cd changer in my car. I will take anything that I better than the crap in my car, heh I have alpine type R's up front and alpine 6x9 in the back and I know they can sound better. Thanks.
Heh.

No aftermarket headunit will be compatible with the factory CD changer.

99% of aftermarket companies make their own CD changer for their headunits and some if not most nowadays can read MP3 discs. So take 6 CD's with 700MB of audio data each and you'll never have to change a CD for months :)

Or you could get a HU with USB controls and use a flash drive :)

I'm guessing the factory CD changer can't read mp3?

Just get an i pod/zune/cheap mp3 player, and forget about cd changers all together. You just need an adapter to hook into your antenna or some plug directly in, depending on the head unit. I use my 120 GB Zune, and will never go back to cd's in the car. I have over 300 cd's loaded on it with plenty of room for more. Most head units that have changer controls have adapters available to connect to your mp3 players if you want a good "hard wired" connection.

I have an auxillery input adapter for my XM and iPod. It's for the OEM radio, and I know there is something similar for the Pioneer as I had one on my Pioneer.

Just looked at Crutchfield and found this:

The piece that I had was identical to this. Then all you need is a 3/5mm stereo to RCA's. There are pics in my project log of how I set mine up.
