Hmmm, if it blows when you shift into reverse, then maybe there is nothing wrong with the defroster? I would check the back up light circuit, too.

Bumping one old thread would have been sufficient.
First, I'll assume it is fuse 7 in the fuse box, not fuse 10 in the PDC.
Fuse 7 would be a problem with either the defroster switch, the back up light switch/circuit. Fuse 10 in the PDC is what handles the load of the defroster grid. The defroster switch is really a timer relay that swiches the power from the 40 amp fuse in the PDC to the grid. I would start by disconnecting the back up switch on the MTX/PNR switch on the ATX ('00/'01)/Range selector switch ATX ('02 to '05). If it doesn't blow when put into reverse, start looking at the reverse wiring/switch/light sockets.
The fact that it works until it is put into reverse, would tell me to look at the reverse light circuit. Since you didn't go into specific detail, does it blow when only in reverse, of can you be in reverse, and turn on the defroster, and then it blows?
If it doesn't blow with only one of the two on, then there is something between the two switches that is drawing too much amps in combination. Unplug the defrost switch if it doesn't blow when only in reverse. The switch may be shorting internally. Or you may find a chaffed wire while you are in there.
Edit: for 40te ATX cars, it is fuse 6

Lol sorry just itchin for an answer to what seems like a pretty cloning problem with these cars... Idk y... But yeah it ONLY will do it in reverse... Doesn't matter if the defrost is on or even if the car is running or not as soon as the gear selector hits reverse... POP... Lol any good sources to get a wording diagram for the reverse circut?
