And he calls you a friend? Besides, his "pops" may have something to say. Especially if "Pops" was smart enough to put a lein on the car, like I would. Yes, I can be a bastid.
Does it have any codes? Does it shut off at 4000 rpm, or just won't go any higher than that?

Because if I had a buddy that had an R/T with 86 miles on it I wouldn't let him trade me an '00 with ? miles. I would help get it fixed for him, and if he wanted to sell it, then at least let me have first dibs for a fair price. That's what this forum is about helping PPL, not taking advantage of their ignorance.

Since his father's money paid for the car, that should be a dicussion amongst the three of you. If his parents and him don't have an issue, then go for it. Even if he is legal age, there are other factors here. If he had bought the car with his own $ then it would be a bit different. That car would easily sell at a dealer for over $6000. I see plenty of '03-'04's here with 40-60,000 miles for $9000-up around here. A moderate mileage '00-'01 is only about 1500-3000, depending on condition.

My best guess is if it has only 86 actual miles, it doesn't get driven much. I would check for exhaust restrictions. But for an even trade, you could well afford to take it somewhere for a real diagnosis.

Wow...so many things it could be. My guess? The exhaust/cat is clogged. There are probably many critters making a home in that exhaust

Is it a straight cut off, or does it hit a sort of rev limiter?

If this car has been sitting for a while (and with that low mileage, I'm sure it has), chances are that the fuel is pretty bad. You may also have contaminants throughout the system.

If that's the case, your best bet is to pull the gas that is in the tank out, and have a full fuel system service done to it. If changing the injectors helped, that reinforces my theory.

Well, when you figure 86 miles is less than 1/2 a tank of gas, it could very well be the problem.

A 6 year old car with 86 miles on it had to have been sitting for a good stretch of time. If he drove it 1 mile every weekend (which is unlikely), after 1 1/2 years he would have about 80 miles, that leaves a good chunk of time unaccounted for.

Like the others said, drain the tank, put in some fresh gas and maybe even some seafoam in with the gas and it should run much better.

And tho not directly related to the performance problem, if the oil hasn't been changed in those 86 ish miles, then schedule that one too. The oil should be changed a minimum of every 6 months regardless of miles. Also the coolant. It will break down over time. If it has a high enough acidity to it it can produce over a volt in the system. That voltage can skew the sensor's output. (Mainly the coolant temp, since it is about the only one that conacts the coolant)
After thinking about it, he might have the better end of the trade. A low mileage car, that hasn't been properly stored in between driving, will generally have failures at lower mileage than one that is driven daily at operating temp for at least 35 to 40 miles/or minutes. Granted timewise the higher mileage car might have more failures, but from my experiences I have had less problems with cars driven over 20,000 miles/year than ones under 10,000 miles/yr.

ok so yesterday i drove the car all day before new years now im going to describe exacly what happens.

ok so to begin with when u first turn on the car (cold engine) its dies on me, once engine is warm its all good

now when i stoped at a intersection i held up the gas to 3000 rpm and just held it there and by its self the rpm goes down to 2000 RPM and goes back up.

and the problem at 4 rpm is just like when u rev up an a/t car like it limts the rpm well its doing that when u get it up to exacly at 4000 rpm

once im driving when im in 5 gear giving gas its like if the car was choking on it self for liek 5 seconds then goes back to normal

ok so thats the main problem

then i have the tranny grinds 2 gear all the time unless its put in very nicely
and when in gear u can move the shifter around has lots of play it it need bushings but that ok i got priced on a shop to get the tranny rebuilt!! not to expencive

n ways so guys here is the detail i promice now what u guys think it can be???

if i get the car i will do complete tune up
all fluids flush brakes are brand new has a week old radiator, stering wheels is riped and sunroof is briken do not know what wrong but that not a problem!!

well i have no idea what can it be! hopefuly somehere had the same problem before and will be able to help!!

thank u guys

HAPPY NEW YEARS TO U ALL< MAY GOD BLEES OUR LIVES WITH LOTS OF NEON AND PARTS RACE FUEL 2.4 TURBO ENGINES AND MUCH MORE!!!

Seems like a lot of problems for a car with 86 miles on it. I would remove the 2 bolts and 1 nut to get a look at the PCM to see if it is in fact an R/T PCM. The VIN should match the VIN on the dash, and it should have R/T on the label. Mine does. If the cluster has been swapped it won't read the actual miles on the car either. And the 8th digit should be an "F" in the VIN. The shifter bushings aren't the best, but I'm sure they last longer than 100 miles. My bushing was missing completely at the transmission end, and it didn't grind at all going into gear. That was when it had 69,000 on it.
