Other 16" wheels that will fit...

Post by acr2002 » Tue Jan 06, 2009 11:20 pm

Well, here is my deal...I want some 16" wheels that are not too flashy. I would really like some Slipstreams or something like that, but I am on a budget. Are there any other decent 16" OEM wheels that will fit on our Neons? I like both of the R/T style wheels, but they are so hard to come by for cheap. Anyone ever try something like this:

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/pts/980492057.html

I know they probably aren't everyone's cup of tea, but I just want something not flashy and cheap. Anyone know if these will fit?

Thanks for any help.

This is what you need to look for in a wheel, and it will probably take a bit of digging to find some of this:

5x100 bolt pattern
57.1mm hub diameter
~40mm backspacing

If you don't have SRT brakes then you shouldn't have to worry about brake clearance.

Ok thanks...it looks like the WRX wheels are a 53 mm offset, so negative to those.

Take a look at the "Drag" wheel line.

Discounttiredirect.com usually has some deals on them.

Maybe the DR17?

Drag wheels do look damn nice, but for cheap and decent looking (you also mentioned you like the RT style wheels) what about PT Cruiser wheels like mine? Good looks, classic 5 spoke pattern, and cheap as hell. I got mine with decent tires for 200 bucks.

I got my set of PT chromies with tires for $200, but that was ~4 years ago.

the pt wheels are an option but they are kinda boring, and imo rota slips are budget wheels, but if you need cheaper then try the exel wheels from wheelmax.com,cheap as dirt

i have heard that they are okay wheels,do a search on em

My first set of aftermarket wheels years ago were Exel. They weren't too bad, but I was constantly fighting to keep the polished lip looking decent. They get a 'Meh +' on the quality scale. Worth looking into if you are after an affordable wheel/tire combo.

You're right rota slipstreams are nice... but EVERYBODY has done it at some point! Much like SRT wheels. They're cool looking, but find me a Neon that hasn't had them on there at some point, haha.

seems there are different definitions of cheap

I assume he's looking for used wheels and tires off another car that will fit a Neon, and maybe in the less than 300 range?.. or less than 200?

It's almost like we need a sticky with research done cuz that question sem to come up frequently. Like "Other cars, makes and models, wheels that will fit the Neon"

my 2 cents...

I got my 16" MB Drifters, brand new, with brand new Kumho tires at Discount Tire for around $600 mounted... that was after going to thier website, discounttiredirect.com and printing out the page with the price, then taking to the local store and they matched the price.. also after a $100 rebate and no payments for 6 months using thier card.

Thanks guys- sorry for not responding, been really busy lately.

I actually really like the pt wheels like Therandom1 has...but I got impatient.

I tried to find something local (PT wheels, R/T wheels, etc.) with NO luck. I ended up getting some 16" OR-52 enkei wheels off ebay and drove about 2 hours to pick them up which saved a good bit on shipping (and had a really nice road trip to listen to some new CD's :tardbang: ) Got them for $265 plus about $20 in gas. Not much more than what the R/T wheels are going for...and I really like these wheels.

I haven't got the chance to have my tires mounted or purchase the lugnuts. And I assume I will need the hubcentric rings as well, maybe(?) so I have to get those, too...

Anyhow, once I get my tax return I should get all of that straightened out along with my SRT-4 rear brake swap. Then I hope to get some pics up to see what you guys think.

Thanks again!

Yeah, 205/50's. I will get some fatter tires in the future, these were on special and I am trying to stay on a budget.

Thanks, these were one set out of about 4 aftermarket wheels that I really liked. When I saw them on ebay (and local), I had to get them.

For an update...I ordered the hubcentric rings and tuner lugs from justforwheels.com Just need to find a shop I trust and doesn't mind mounting tires they didn't supply. The Tires Plus I used to go to will no longer mount/balance tires if they aren't purchased from them. Which makes zero sense to me, especially with how much I have dealt with them in the past.

Also, what kind of torque wrench do you guys use when installing your wheels? I have always done a "feel method" with my stock wheels, but this is my first aftermarket set, ever- and I don't want to warp or screw them up.

Thanks guys.
