No, video is over-rated for a DSLR, your spending money to take pictures, buy a seperate camcorder. Plus the D80 seems to have better performance and picture quality...glasswars wrote:pshhh shoulda spent extra for the d90. nice buy though.
The D90 had to skimp on some features to get the video and ultra high res lcd screen...
If your going to spend extra money, the D200 is what you should be spending your money on!
Great choice though, I'm a Canon person (I have an investment in lens's) but the D80 is the way I'd go in Nikon...

Nice. Here's a few tips:
ISO-Higher means brighter pictures, but more noise.
Aperture-Lower number means larger aperture, meaning more light. The lower the number, the shallower your depth of field becomes.
Shutter speed-Pretty much self explanatory
Tripod-Get one. End of discussion
Shoot in RAW. You get better picture quality that way, but they're a little more time consuming.
I'm no photographer, I'm sure someone can improve this post.

I have a tripod, plan on using it too! Thanks for the tips. I'll get technical later on, but for now I just want to point and shoot on auto until I feel like i'm ready. I have an old 35mm Canon Rebel SLR but I never got very good with it. Wish I had. Anyhow, all help is appreciated, this is something i've wanted to learn for a long time.

I have the sony a300 - I like it, and the ability to use old sony/minolta lenses is nice.
