URGENT! Please read.

Post by heyitsstock » Tue Jan 13, 2009 8:02 pm

Here is the problem. My 2001 ES has about 130k+ on it. The A/C compressor is shot (my A/C stopped blowing cold air and the compressor would not kick on so I assumed that the compressor was blown). Now two days ago my heat was not blowing hot air (so I thought my heater went). Then last night my thermostat, which should be at 1/4, rose to 3/4. Right probably leaking coolant. So, today was oil change day, so I opened my hood and my engine looked almost wet, or covered in something. I realized it was my coolant and then I found the leak at the top of my radiator.

Now I have two choices fix my neon or buy this coupe.

The neon i assume will need at worst a new radiator, a/c compressor, heater, and while I'm at it have my timing belt and water pump service done since i have never had that done (yes I know it should be done at 60k).. Do I really want to dump the money into this car with 130+K on the clock..

Or. Do I want to buy this coupe?

That exhaust is horrific. Other than that, seems like a solid built car. Find out if the bottom end is built before you buy it though. I wouldn't pay $5k for a 1st gen, maybe 4500 with all that work into it.

Also, what year is that car, and what is it running on? Megasquirt, or stock computer and fuel regulator BS?

Wowaa... slow down.

You are not getting heat because your cooling system is empty or has very little coolant in it. That issue will get fixed when you get the leak repaired.

If you decide to fix it... fix the coolant leak and getting the timing belt job done first as the AC issue will keep.

Good point Paul. Thanks for the tip.

Well judging by what I have said, what would you guys estimate the most money I would pay for repairs?

I was going to off him 3500 due to the fact that i would have to replace the back bumper and exhaust and Im not sure how the car is in general.

I just replaced the thermostat and radiator in my 98 and it cost me $200 (alittle less).

neons are cheap to fix.

If you can get that 1gn for 3500 I would buy it. Fix your other car for what you would have paid for the 1gn and now you have two cars.

Here's a radiator from APW: http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/searc ... 65406+9235

Add $8 for a thermostat, and another $20 for hoses, and your coolant leak is fixed.

If your '01 is paid off, just get the 1gn, and you have a winter car (2gn) and a summer fun car (1gn).
