A*****E COP!!!!

Post by patton98 » Thu Jan 15, 2009 12:21 am

So the other night one of my headlights burnt out, well i bought a set of the yellow bulbs off ebay and they have a lifetime warranty on them, so i oredered a new pair but in the meantime ive been driving with one headlight i got pulled over last night and the cop was like u know u have a headlight out right?.....i told him yes they are a special order bulb and im waiting for it to come in. he then says i noticed they have a yellow tint to them am i right? i said yes that is why they are a special order bulb and i havent yet replaced it, he goes well u know that yellow headlights are illegal in Indiana i said well no i didnt but i do now. He takes my info and goes back to his car and returns with a 130 dollar ticket for improper equipment....NOT EVEN A DAMN WARNING.....he said to me if u look on the package of the headlights it will say for offroad use only...so i went home still rather pissed off and looked at the package...yepp it doesnt say a damn thing about them being for offroad use only....im taking him to court....

Your state will have a say in what is offroad use or not. I would try to fight it and get at least a repair warning. He went to the extreme. Most states yellow headlights are illegal though.

agreed. why would you even WANT them? you should get a ticket for being a twat.

i saw someone with yellow headlights the other night at work.. i did a double take like wtf is that.. gay as hell.

then i also saw someone with at least 12K hids.. ridiculous..

what the hell is wrong with people? (wow thats a loaded question, no answer needed)

although i do think a warning would have been sufficient.. but quit whining like the cop did you wrong.. there is no requirement for you to get a warning first before a ticket.. ignorance of the law is not a free pass.. and because everyone else does it doesn't make it okay for you to do it too.. that whole "jumping off a bridge if everyone else did" thing....

Halogen bulbs - 90% of vehicles use them - produce almost a yellow light
Silverstar style halogens -aftermarket - produce almost a white light
Yellow aftermarket bulbs - good for foggy conditions
You should check out Indiana's DOT laws and see what they state about color temps of headlights in your state.

Lesson learned:
Slap the old one or a cheap one back in till the replacements get there. If you had two lights, he prolly wouldn't have stopped you. And if he did and commented about the color, play dumb, and say oh, thanks, it must be dying.

The same reason you like them is the same reason why they are obviously illegal.

agreed. and the blue ones that you are refering to are called HID's they look blue due to the hue they put out but are not blue. any headlight bulb you order that is colored and has jap writing on it is for off road use here in the states. there was a huge fad here with read and green lights for awhile here. the cops had fun with them.... not to mention that gay ass mirror tint.

OEM HIDs look blue, purple, etc becuase of the projector lens refracting the light. They are all 4300k and put out a white light as you get closer to them. Look at the ground in front of them its not purple or blue, but white. Its just refraction that causes them to do that.

Yellow bulbs are illegal in almost every state with the exception of use in the fog lights.

why are cops always assholes when all theyre doing is their job...

common sense depicts theyre illegal . I really dont know any states (least around here) where they are. Most of the time you just see them in fog lights... not your main headlights.

If you are using your headlight as a rotating flasher or some other caution light then go for it but if you are using yellow bulbs for driving lights they are illegal in Indiana. Reduced vision, confuses other drivers, etc.

The only vehicles that are allowed to have yellow lights are government vehicles - and they flash or rotate. Some companies are allowed to have them and that if for like wide loads or vehicles that make frequent stops - the dome ones btw.

Why would you want a headlight that makes it hard to see, looks like your battery is dead and your bulbs are about ready to die? Some silver stars would look fine and you would be able to see so much better.

Back when I first got my license, my friends had underbody kits and they would get pulled over all the time by the cops because of the color of the lights.

I wouldn't waste your time in court unless you have a very good game plan...

Request an extension for your court date.

Replace with silverstars.

Go to court, play dumb.

I have a Cadillac with HIDs. I also upgraded the factory bulbs to 6000K and have 4000K fogs and have never been stopped. My lights barely have a blue hue to them.

Just an FYI.....

Yellow light has the longest wavelength of any light output, thus will actually produce the best night and foul weather lighting as it takes a lot to cut it down, it shoots through fog, and water on the road very well so you can see the road and not just have the light reflect of of the water.

HOWEVER, your headlights are illegal, you told the officer straight out that they were tinted yellow and ANY tinted bulb is illegal.
