Transmission gone?
Hey guys, my transmission just failed recently on the way from toronto to kansas, and it failed like 200miles from home.... but i just wanted to know what the problem might be...
so I have an automatic 04 transmission, all stock, and i was running down the highway and i felt once in a while a little bit of a popping feeling in the pedel when i give it gas while moving and then it gets worst in the steering wheel, so i figured maybe it's a loose lug nut, but it wasn't and then all of a sudden it just disengage from the motor and just rev all the way up almost as if i put it in neutral.... and then it won't engage at all.
The motor is running fine and stuff, but whenever i put it in any gear beside park or neutral it starts making a little grinding sound like the transmission is just rubbing the motor. So, i did a regual 2.0 motor swap before but didn't like the amount of work that went into it... so i might just let a shop do it, but does that mean i need a new transmission? or did something just came loose and is reparable? Thanks guys!

Maybe the screws came out of the flexplate/TC?

Probably shouldn't listen to anything your penis says, that guy's a dick.

Yeah, fluid level is ok, but it was due for a trans fluid change though, it's like probably about 5,000 miles off due though..., well after the motor swap i figured i don't want to go through the time and money to rent a hoist and work on it, since school just started. I dropped my car off at an auto shop, but i just wanted to know what you guys think so that i can tell them what i think the problem is so that at least they won't try to overcharge me with things that aren't even there in the first place.
The grinding is there but it's not like crazy loud, since i did the motor swap before, it does sound like as if the flex plate is rubbing against the transmission when the bolts are off...
I'm not sure how auto trans really work yet, but isn't an automatic transmission failure suppose to happen gradually? like hard shiftings, etc? Mine seems to just disengaged abruptly... But, i just wanted to ask you guys what the possibility might be so i can talk to the mechanics so i don't get ripped off. Thanks!

If the flex plate screws came out of the TC it would stop suddenly, as it would be the same as pushing the clutch in. Since you just installed the engine...
If you didn't loc-tite them, they very well could have come loose. If they did, just hope that the threads aren't too messed up. It would suck balls to have to replace the TC over some freakin' cap screws!

alright, so i brought it to the mechanics, and apparently, it's not the trans, they said the front axle broke... so it's gonna be about 180 for everything and to be done in about 2 hours... but dang!! i spent 125 on tow truck to the nearest city and about 270 on uhaul rental to bring it back... so very expensive mistake!! I could've just repair it in that city

Meh, It's been colder than f*ck, not like I would have been poking around under there either. And depending on where how the half shaft broke, it could be hard to see. It obviously wasn't a "lookin' you in the face" failure, or it would have been thumping around under there real good, until the car came to a stop.
The important thing is it's fixed, and you didn't freeze you ass off.
