Paint Price.
Just wanted to see everyone's opinion, but I was price shoppin around town and the best I got was $175 (at the most, he said $150-$175 depending on the cost of paint) to paint my Mopar Lip kit (front, rear, and side skirts). What do you all think? I know some out there know people that work at a paint shop and get hooked up, but other than that... is $175 a decent price?

He is only going to need about a pint of paint to paint that.
I am guessing he is using some type of economy paint. As a pint of decent stuff is around 60 bucks.
Thats a good price. But if he uses cheap materials then it could hurt you in the long run. Because that front lip will obviously see rocks and such from normal driving. So you want some good stuff on there.
But maby he has a good discount through his supplier and gets good prices. I dunno.

on just the paint?Sykora wrote:I spent $200 on paint just for my mopar lip kit
Dan just said you should only need a pint and a good paint is $60/pint. I understand you need reducer but how the hell did you end up at $200

^^^ 60 dollars for paint, plus primer, then clear.and then reducer ect for a decent brand (PPG,Martinsenour) its pretty easy to get to 200 plus for enough to do a lip kit

He is right it all adds up. Primer, activator, sealer, activator, paint, reducer, clear and activator.theTeejmiester wrote:^^^ 60 dollars for paint, plus primer, then clear.and then reducer ect for a decent brand (PPG,Martinsenour) its pretty easy to get to 200 plus for enough to do a lip kit
PPG is a good brand. But Martinsenour is sherman williams lol. That stuff is the mega cheap stuff lol.
Let me put it into perspective. FOr everythig I paint I use all PPG products. The paint is around 50 a pint. The clear is around 200 a gallon for teh clear and acitvator. The primers. The sealers. The sand paper. It all adds up very fast.

Well, since it's a professional paint shop.. they should be doing all that clear, activator, whatever right?... I know LSP has always said (unless you are a professional yourself) to get it done at a shop so it's done the right way the first time. Hopefully I'm not getting ripped off or something
But I've heard good things about this guy, so yea. We'll see when I get it back next weekend (only because I'll be so busy I probably won't have time to pick it up during the week).
Thanks guys.
Thanks guys.

i will disagree with you on the martinsenour paint, the tech line is not a very cheap or crappy paint, and the base line crossfire clears(15410,15420) are some of the best for the price out there.while many people will go with the ppg or similar brand just look at how long sherwin williams has been making paint, and when it comes to paint i like SPI,they make great products and good prices.but that is imokornholio788 wrote:He is right it all adds up. and for a lip kit u really only need a pint. i mean if u know how to paint then a pint would be way enough.
my opinion its a hell of alot of money.

You have to factor in the paint, reducer, primer, clear, activator, sandpaper, laquer thinner to clean the gun. Plus labor. Labor is ussually around 30 bucks an hour. You could easily have 3-4 hours to completely paint that from start to finish.

i mean im no profesional painted or whatever. and i dont want to start an argument but i painted my whole front meaning fenders and bumper for $50.
and a lip kit would not take 3 hours to paint. at the most 30 minutes. but thats just me. i know it didnt take me that long to paint my front. but idk what kind of methods everyone else uses.

I am not either just stating the facts. And I can GUARANTEE that there is no way you can paint a whole lip kit in 30 min. If you are only taking that much time to clean, prep, sand/scuff, clean, spray base, spray clear then you are not doing it properly.fresh04neon wrote:i mean im no profesional painted or whatever. and i dont want to start an argument but i painted my whole front meaning fenders and bumper for $50.

And in between that you have to mix everything and the dry times in between coats.
And there is no way you can paint a whole front end for 50 bucks. Unless you are using the cheapest of the cheap paint. And not taking the proper steps to do it correctly.
I do this for a living homie. I do know what I am talking about

Dude he's right, prepping alone takes a while. I sand, rinse and wash the pieces...then drying, it takes a lot of time if you want it done right.
You can get a pint of color to do a whole front bumper for about $25 from the house of color (on discount) but the clear is expensive as fuck

I have, it's not that great. For the same price I can get DBC, which is PPG's good paint.
I've sprayed Nason, Chromabase, House of Kolor, and Sikkens.
I'm a PPG fan boy. BTW to the guy who said "30 minutes". It takes 30 minutes to scuff/prep ONE piece.
And 175 is a good price. I charge around 100 a piece for lip kits and that's cheap where I am. I use only PPG products, the DBC for the base to get a better color match and the DCU2021 for the clear on a cheap piece like that.
Chipping will only happen if the prep sucks regardless of what paint you use. You could use BASF and prep like shit and it would chip faster than Omni.
BTW BASF is damn good stuff!

Martin seniour(sp), dbc(ppg), DBU(ppg), PPG Vibrance, omni(ppg economy), Chromabase(dupont), Nason(dupont economy), House of kolor, spies hecker, RM, imron 3.5, and a couple other industrial paints.
So now, ppg isn't he only paint I have sprayed lol. It's aight. If it works for you great dude. Just saying that imo it is a cheap paint.
