official speaker sizes....
Ok, I've been on many websites and I'm getting mixed sizes. What are the official sizes of the dash, door, and rear speakers? And if you get an aftermarket reciever, will all 6 speakers work, or will you have to choose between the dash and door speakers?

Official sizes:
Dash: 3.5"
Door: 6.75"
Deck: 6x9"
When you use a factory wire harness to hook up your new head unit to your stock speakers, all six speakers will work as they should. However, there will be an impedance difference from the speakers and the new head unit. I believe the stock speakers are like 3 ohm and most head units push out 4 ohm. So the stock speakers will sound louder with the new head unit but the quality will be quite horrid still until the speakers can be replaced. If you do replace any of them, I would highly recomend going with a good set of components in the front.
The dash depth is insanly small and allows for almost no tweeter extrusion. So, you are better off going with a 2.5" or 1.5" silk dome tweeter. The door uses an oversized 6.5" speaker, so you can get away with using 6.5" component sets. I've also seen people mount a shallow depth 8" in the door with some modification. Keep in mind the 8" would need to be free air speakers (a.k.a. infinite baffle). I've also heard you can mount the Kenwood 7" components in there with little to no problems (depth I believe). However, I wouldn't go with Kenwood for speakers. Something more like CDT 07s or the like. In the back deck, you can go with any 6x9 to your fancy with only tweeter extrusion as a concern. The main thing you should look at is depth and extrusion (or mounting height). I'm not sure what the official sizes are for those, but if the speaker fits with no problems, you should be set.
Good tips to use:
Deaden the doors with material made with butyl rubber compound rather than pvc or asphalt. The deadening quality is far greater with butyl and will be cheaper in the long run for the same effect.
Don't use the spray on deadening material in vertical places... it will flake after a few years depending on the weather changes.
Purchase a good comopnent set rather than coax for the front stage. The matched speaker set will give a flatter response curve in the sound quality.
Stay away from Audiobahn. You will be happier with the sound quality.

also the dash and front door speakers, are 8ohm's each, wired together for a 4ohm load on each side.. rears are 4ohms each..
i put in a set of 4ohm kicker 6.5 in the front door, and sounded like ass till i took out the tweeters in the dash...

They may have sold you 5 1/4 speakers with a mounting bracket, but the neon still has a 6.5" - 6.75" oversized. I've mounted some 7" speakers and a friend of mine did 8's with a very shallow depth and minor bracket rebuilding. Kind of surprised you purchased some stockers though... most aftermarket speakers work much better.mkyboy wrote:I just bought the door speakers from a 05 sxt on ebay. The seller tells me they fit 00-05 and they are 5 1/4 in
